How do you know it sold for 19 thousand? Hell of a score if it did. MT

Mecum and BJ have some cars that sell for ridiculous prices, and some that seem to be a screaming deal. This is the latter.

There's little about that car that appeals to me...

That's because it's a hideous and tasteless.

The write-up description is a huge fluff job. Trying to trick people into thinking this car is one of 16 is total B.S. The Trans Am history lesson has nothing to do with this particular car. "Nostalgic registration with NHRA as car W131" says nothing if it's ever been down a dragstrip or if it did that times it ran.

Lucky to get $19K for that.

I'm not sure what this car is trying to be..
Drag car, Nascar, Trans Am, weird 80's show car?
Is it one of the GT Barracuda's with the FIA Homologation? If so they had a833 and the 318..(edit; I just read the homologation papers and autos were included)
What is a 300ci engine, and how is it derived from a 318?
I'm not being critical, but with all those mods and the general appearance of the car, it is a little confusing.
If it is a real GT (I don't know if anyone has ever seen one) I would be surprised to see it looking like this.

I thought the exact same thing...

Don't get me wrong, I feel like after changing it to be more "drag car"
look ( stance, those silly small rear tires, things like that )
I think it would look pretty cool, to me anyways.
Just seems like confusing back story and a mix of racing style influences.
And what gives with a "nut & bolt" resto and less than ten years later needs a "re-fresh"?

looks downright hoaky to me. someone was drunk to pay that kind of money for it. it must be a V-10 competition 300 V8

If that is a real deal Trans Am car then whoever executed the 'restoration' was completely misguided. Looks like a toy you get as a giveaway at a gas station or something.

Why do guys think that every Mopar should have a giant, random hood scoop and screaming bright paint?

WoW,

Took a real hard look again at this car and the info provisioned in the Mecum Catalog. Casting the fluff aside it really doesn't tell ya much other then it's #13 of the original 16 but that's atypical for an auction catalog. Was this car built purely for Show or to compete ? Doesn't say and definitely not for the purist. Personally not a fan of any of the Barris/ Foose creations and while this car does have a variety of non-stock components attached each one is purposeful and I certainly wouldn't consider for a second it be aborted. Judging by what you can see in the image's it looks like a good build and if what's underneath is built for purpose as well I still like it and would drive it in a heartbeat. Surely questions abound about the Motor internals, Drivetrain and Performance data but I still like it.

To Each His Own.

The 1 of 16 deal does not mean 16 were built.

All it means is that 16 273-2V 1966 Barracudas have registered with Galen Govier. Please realize most people with 1966 Barracuda 273 2 barrels will not bother registering them with Galen Govier. I bet he doesn't have many 74 Valiant 4 door /6's registered, but they made tons of them. This 1 of 16 comment doesn't not show any true relevance to this car.

The Trans Am story and homologation chatter is just a irrelevant romanticized smokescreen to the reality of this vehicle.

This car is trying to be the mopar version of Johnny Cash's Cadillac in the song "one piece at a time"

I change my position. Not a deal. Did not not know about the misleading nonsense from Mecum. Perhaps the buyer did not realize that 16 of 16 is not what he thought it meant.

My car is one of one...

It's the only one of that make and model that I farted in the seat....
