Okay, so I decided to take the leap and get TTI headers. Along with this, I also did a 4 speed conversion. With all these variables changing, I was prepared for something not to fit...well...it "fits" but man is it a tight fit! I knew the z-bar had to be modified (of course for the amount of money you spend on quality TTI headers, they don't fit with the factory z-bar...) anyways...what also it tight is the header tube near the mini-starter...less then a 1/4 of an inch.

I guess what I'm asking is for someone to show me a picture of something very similar to what I did. I have the alterkation kit with a power rack...the steering shaft is less then 1/8 of an inch from one of the tubes. I bent one of the levers on the z-bar so it will barely fit between the tube and the starter.

Anyone have any fitment issues with these headers with either a mini-starter, a 4 speed, or an alterkation kit steering shaft? What it looks like I'm gunna be doing is denting some expensive headers, lol

Anyways, any help is much preferred, i would love to see what it looks like with the TTI z-bar installed!

I feel your pain. I have a set of tti headers on my 440 and had to beat the living $hit out them to get them to fit on the drivers side. Especially around the manual steering box. The passenger side went right in. You would think for the amount of money you have to pay for them they would put themselves on.

did you first make sure that your engine was in the correct location before beating the living $hit out of them? or atleast contact TTI and see if they could send you a diferent header if it was for some reason not built right?

If anything my engine is a little close to the firewall, idk if that has anything to do with where it mounts to the alterkation kit, but then I look at the z-bar and if the engine were any farther away from the firewall then the z-bar wouldn't be straight. I haven't had to beat the headers to death, just little indents to ASSURE clearing as they clear but only barely. The part I had to dent to provide a clearance was for the steering shaft, but from what I understand, the power rack prob wasn't too compatible with the headers. Regardless, it's still a lot better then the damage I had to do to my last set of AWFUL headers, lol

I thought with the AlterK kit you had the option to route the steering shaft the way you wanted to clear stuff?

Maybe, would probably involve another u-joint, if anyone has a pic of a rerouted steering shaft I'd be interested in seeing it!

Sounds like it is to late for this but you should of put the motor/headers in then mocked the stering shaft up to go around through what you had to work with. Is it to late for that?

I have a small block and a 4 speed and a factory k on my 71. My advice, spend the money on the TTI Z bar....All fits perfect on mine, with a mini starter. The positioning of the motor is CRITICAL to the proper clearance around my 1.04 t bars and power steering box. I have a Schumacher torque strap to lock it all down once its set.

Haha, yeah it's too late for that, had to put a small dent in it, blood curdled a bit when I had to do that, lol, I have the steering column bolted up as far away as I could before I did it, its a small dent, gave it the clearance it needed.

GMachine, I could see it kinda sucking with the torsion bars in the way, luckily with the setup I have it deletes them!

Trust me, the last thing I wanted to do was beat on these headers that I just spent over $700 on. The engine is mounted using schumacher conversion mounts so I can only assume they place the engine in the correct location. I talked to tti about the clearance issues and they politely told me "they should fit". Either way, they are in the car and have been for almost two years and I have no complaints. I must say, they are way better fitting headers than the old cppa pieces of crap I used on a big block demon back in the day.

Forget that TTI Z bar. They want way to much for it. Just mod the one you have. Not that hard to do.

you think you have it bad with one Z bar?

the early A tti's fit nice, but brake lines, oil filter bolts, clockable starters, cutting / welding the crossmember, and removal of e-brake brackets are all in order, in addition to the Z bar in a stick car.

Amen to that.
