Now that I have spark and the slant 6 is running , I want to time it. I have adjusted the valves set the dwell but I am unable to get it timed to the exact spec. I can come close but not exact. If I remove the distributor and rotate it clockwise a tooth I still can not get it exact. If I remove the distributor and rotate counter clockwise same problem. I can get it within 10-15 degrees either BTDC or ATDC but not to 2.5 -5 BTDC as required. The timing mark is not wandering.
Thank you,
Otto

Doesn't the bracket plate fasten to the slant distributor with a bolt. You can loosen that bolt and adjust the swing of the bracket slot that attaches to the engine.

Time it where the engine wants it, not what the book says. It will run better. You might have to alter the mechanical advance to limit total. The slant I had ran much better with 10* than the 5* you are looking for.

There are some good slant guys around here.

I loosened the bolt and I am unable to rotate the distributor enough to get the correct timing.

There should be two bolts, one on the engine and bottom side of the dist housing,

If you can't turn the dirtributor enough you should try harder. As you turn the vacum advance should be able to hit the block as you turn counter clockwise should go to the shock tower. I had a hard time breaking mine loose when I set my timing. And like stated above mine is set around 10-12*. You may know this as well, but pull the vac line off the dist and plug the line to the intake.

I forgot to disconnect the Vacuum advance. I will try again tomorrow. Are you saying 10-12 degrees BTDC or Atdc ?
