Here is a chart that helps. The middle number in "sound level" is around drone area RPM.

Not any single muffler is best for any combo. Most of the time the difference in performance are marginal at best.

Drone can also be eliminated by an X pipe, or running an over sized pipe about 2' from the muffler, then going back to the same size. Learned that lil trick in my younger years when I bought a huge pallet of thrush glasspacks that were 16" and all different ID sizes. All my pals had new glasspack exhaust, LOL.
(I have a huth bender and do my own EX, that helps too)
My pickmup, has 2 1/2" going to aerochambers, with an H, then 3" tailpipes, dumped under the hitch. While there is no drone at all, the larger pipes makes it quieter as far as DB's, but yet sounds like a MONSTER.
IMO, a great on the cheap muff, is magnaflow.
