well got to go to the local test and tune last night car ran preety good ...off the trailer the car ran a 7.65 with a 1.65 60' .. tire are really bad one want keep air very long i put 15psi and when I get back to the truck its down to 10/13 had 10 on 1 run man this thing was something to drive then..anyway made 4 pass and only tune was move the timing and it went 7.63 with a 1.65 60' my freind said it jacked the driver wheel up on the dry hop all in all had a great time no problems except tire and trying to learn to drive this thing again......temp got down to 37 last night so not the best cond. dew was on the track...plan to go over the valves again ,try 1'' spacer, also going to take the shims out of the rear it has 2in each side 6 total on each side and unclamp the back of the springs...I'll post the slips later if i can ...oh had a bad time with batt. as well had to jump the car 3 times out of the 4 runs gotta get a new batt. but its more init with some tune I think and shims out.....

The best thing I ever did was use an MP mini starter... Even with a hot engine and battery (Optima) drained from water pump and fans col down it would turn over.

hay moper I have a little mini on off of a dakoda but its about 8yrs old and i think thats the problem... i had my batt. out of my dump truck in the car and it just would not start took batt. and had it tested it fine crank dump right up....so its time for another starter or rebuild this one.....but hay i only paid 30 buckes for it.....i plan to block the pv in the back of the carb could someone exp. how it should work I know it stops it from pulling gas as it runs down the track at full but should I also change anything else?I checked my plugs after the run and they are a tan brown on tip and no spicks on the porc. so I think that im about right....72fr/85bk 4.5pvfr/6.5bk with the pink cam and 31 nozz. its a 950 hp sealed to the hood.....and with 110 race gas the plugs are a nice looking gray ....i mixed it at the track about 5gal 97and 2gal 111....oh and as far as a batt. which optima did you use moper...the yell.??

72fr/85bk 4.5pvfr/6.5bk

That's way off.

Your jetting spread is nowhere close to correct. With PV's the jetting should be squared up front/rear. You have a 13 step spread. I'm guessing you are lean up front and rich in the rear

If you have a power valve and remove it, you normally jet that side up between 6-8 steps

That carb, if it's a 80496 should have 78's front and rear with a power valve in each end. If you remove the rear PV, then up that side to around 84-86. Start there and tune it up.

hay crackback thats the one so i will try 78ftand 85 bk but as far as plugs it looks good....what do you think of the et it6 has more in it but just need to tune it a little....I plan to block the pv inthe back. i took the shims out it was 5 degrees in shims.... so i think it will be better without them......tire was a problem but not much as I was leaerning to drive it......I just checked my cyl. press. a few min. ago and now its 180 am I better off with 110?? i'll post pic tomor. i have some from 2day..

so crackback if i'm right you say go to 78 fr and 84/86 bk no pv..right then tune from there...i plan to block pv.. what should I look for when I block pv as far should it run better pull harder or what kind of results...I know this is some what of a tune part just want to get what I can out of it....well here is a pic of my little toy

Sent you a PM.

I'd start at the factory jetting point and go from there.

Jet for MPH...

very good then, 6 steps is a good starting place.

so let me get this right now im going 2 78fr and the bk is 86 i think so when i block pv i go 2 92 i think im on my sons phone now so i may b a little slow on reply my puter took a vac. but keep it comeing please...

the pv is part of the power enrichment system. when there is vacuum above the pv# it stays closed, when the vacuum falls under that pv# it opens and adds fuel(power enrichment). the vacuum signal falls when the throttle blades open then the pv opens to keep the motor from going lean. when you are cruising you have a good vacuum signal and are just using the main jets which is good for fuel economy but not for all out hp which is why there is a power enrichment circuit. so all that crap being said a blocked pv is going to lean your motor out at a low vacuum signal or full throttle. which is why you need to add jet.

I'd start at front 78 w/ pv, Rear 86 no pv

You could even boost the rear 2 more. I wouldn't start with anything larger than an 88 in the rear without the PV.

hay guys on my brothers puter. my puter took a vac. any went with 80fr and 88bk no pv couls not find any 78 so thats where Im at now..car still runs good also add 1" spacer plan to try thr car soon....my go friday night or next sat. so bob give me a call soon if you like.......I think the car should mph more ....where should the spring clamps go at the fr (behind the mount plate or back) plan to take them with me and try after a pass and the shims if 60 are off.......give me some more ideas guys I'm all eyes...hahaha:cheers:

What fuel pump, line size and regulator?

Jet it up until it slows down.

If you don't have adequate fuel supply, you could jet it to 100 square and it won't make a difference. Once the amount of fuel available runs out, jetting won't help. Just something to think about. That's why I ask about you fuel system.

Spring clamps go on the front segments of the springs, you shouldn't have any behind the shock mount plate on the rear section.

Do you know where the pinion angle is set? That's the first stop IMHO. If that's not in the necessary range, anything else you do is a band aid.

hay crackedbacked I have the holley blue pump and 1/2 line from cell to fr of the car to holley reg. on the clamp do they go right up against the spring eye or back towards the axle tube??? yea on the pinion I need to get somewhere I know is leval and see where i'm at then go from there..I havent drove it since the jet change it's been raining here ..

roxboro is closed until jan 9 and will open if the weather is above 45* the clamps go about 2" back the the front lip of EACH spring leaf between the springeye and u-bolts. your fuel system is good.

hay bob brewers is open this friday and next sat. for the last time this year....thanks for the spring help. ill try that when im there or where ever i end up at...just ready to c if my changes helped or hurt...would love to get down to some 40 or 20 would be great..you guys think its poss. with the parts im useing now?been reading up on the dist. slop post aand i have some of that to fix also.....thanks 4 you guys helping me keep the tune ideas comeing.....also took a look at some marks that i made in the road and all goes 2 the left and i see my car sit higher on the right side in bk and higher right side fr. need 2 adj. bars down on rightside or up leftside.which would do....need to take a meas. and see which side is at a safe point...thanks again

don't worry about which way it went on the road. the crown has alot to do with that. just wait until your at the track to adjust after a pass. do you have superstock springs?

yep 02/03 took it for a drive a little ago since i did the jets and now it just blows the tire off...i tried it b 4 after i took the shims out and it did ok now it 2 soild black marks 30 foot long.....plan to put 3degree shimm back in and go from there at the track...needs 2 b checked on a leval and see where its at now..tring 2 get this done b 4 track close and i have 2 have surgery on the 7th of dec.. on my shoulder.....dont know how long im going 2 b out...also i plan 2 add clamps i have a set of clamps.......

also i 4got the shim i have is 3degree with 3 holes do i use the mddle hole orshould i use the last hole at the bottom....i had it in the middle with a 2degree just want 2 try one this round...maybe i just need to load it bring it onn up there to warr. bob hahaha thanks

center hole. You want the shim squarely under the spring perch. Center perch hole lined up with center hole of shim.

thanks crackback need all the help i can get with this thing...working on any of your hot rod stuff...where do you guys think this thing would like the timing at right now its on 33 locked and the dist. as a little slop init that im going to try and get out.that should help some.
