Told my Cuda has a Stroked 318?

What would you guys recommend for a stall? Its a stock converter right now, i do know that, and just a mild crower cam... It supposedly has 360 heads too, I need to pull my covers to verify when I get a minute. Is there a big difference between those and the 318's?

Yes the 360 heads have larger ports and valves but they also have a negative thing and that's they have larger combustion chambers which means you loose about a point of compression when you put them on a 318. Since your 318 is a mild build it would be better with 318 heads. Nevertheless I have seen some low compression "teens" run pretty darn good. If it were mine I'd put in a 3000 stall converter. You need to get it up in the power band where it makes power. Like Dodgetkboy said a stall converter and some better gears will make a big difference. I won't be a pooch on take off if geared right. I've seen 318 cars set up basically like yours run in the mid to high 13's.

I also doubt that they put a 340 crank in that motor as the main journals for the 340 crank are larger than the 318. That would be a lot of extra$$$ to put that crank in for no gain!!! Doesn't diminish the fact that it's a sweet car and you should be very happy to have gotten it. I agree with the public that a steeper gear would really do that smallblock wonders, although the 3:23 is a good all around gear, you need to wind up that smallblock a little quicker to get it up in the power band of the motor. You'd be happy with a 3:55 and even happier with a 3:73, and if highway driving is not high on your list, a 3:91 is probably the best ratio for your motor, all things considered. Nice ride, welcome to the site and keep us posted on your progress, Geof

I thought the 318/340 crankshafts were both SMALL Journal Mains and the 360 had the bigger Mains. With this being the case that 318 could VERY well have a 340 crankshaft in it, but like stated earlier it would not be a STROKER being that the 340 Stroke is the same as a 318. I know that a 360 Mopar Performance Crankshaft comes in Large and Small Journal Main sizing. I have one with the SMALL mains on my parts shelf.

Your right Louis. The 340 crank is the small journal like a 273 and 318. Only the 360 had large main journals.

I have learned a few things on this site! Got alot more to learn though. I also learned how to spot Crappy machine work but that cost me to learn that..haaaaa

Mannn I aint lyinnn!!!!!

its a beautiful car. id have traded the bike for it in a heartbeat.

as for the engine. its not a stroker. alot of guys think they have a "stroker" when all they did was bore it. lol.

but its still a great car. and well worth it. that 318 will make you appreciate the 440 even more.
