A classic. I am a retired USAF officer (1973-1993) with almost 10,000 hours flying time. I love the old movies. One thing I like about them is when they show people enjoying the Officer's Club. The first 10 years I was in, the Officer's Club was truly a great place to go. There were bands, dancing, great food, cheap liquor, and people just had a good time. Then the PC crowd started to take over. Smoking and drinking became a No No. It got to the point where you didn't want the PC police to see you drinking at the Club. Officer Club's are just about dead now. Each base that I've been on lately now just has a "Club". It is for Officers and NCOs. Not enough business for there to be an Officer's club. I wonder if the Army, Navy and Marines still have real Officer's Clubs.

The Camp Pendleton Marine E-club was pumping on Wednesday nights, Ladies night! That place would pull every horny girl from 30 miles! If you were a girl with a pulse, you could get laid. We Marines could give a rats what you looked like...ever see a Marine family picnic? Ooof! The O-club I passed through a few times on duty was like going onto the set of the Lawrence Welk show: talk about stuffy! NCO clubs were lame, not enough patrons. Staff NCO club was like a VFW, old farts getting drunk. The real scene was Olongapo, outside Subic Bay, PI. Man, that place was like Vegas for 1/4 mile. Enlisted and Zeros getting bombed together in the same bar! Place would rage until the sun came up. Ah, the good 'ol days....

I was stationed at NAS Miramar, (GCA RADAR tech, ET-R2) 70-74, during the "Zumwalt era." He attempted to improve things for the average sailor.

Believe it or not we had one base commander for awhile, and had TOPLESS STRIPPERS at the base PO club (NCO to you)

Harrison and Del ,will check it out,.And Thanks 4, your service .....

Transfer that movie to b 52`s for me. I used to sit on the end of the runway during an ORI inspection, and watch access doors and bolts fall off of them. Taking off seconds behind the other, until the alert pad was empty. When one cleared the runway, the next was already pouring the coal to it. 8 engines running on about 25 , all at once. Pretty dam loud, would shake the ground !
I wasn`t gung ho for it tho.

AKA mito.....Air Force also. Saw a few of the MITO. They had to take off 15 seconds between. Talk about LOUD! And at a SAC base, don't forget the Christmas tree

My mom actually met him back in the 60s. She worked for the commander of the AF Hospital at Travis AFB. Jimmy, a Reserve BG at the time flew into Travis on board a B52 on its way to Guam. Needless to say, the hospital flight surgeon got word that he was overdue his flight physical so he grounded him. Well, that got a visit to the commander. She said he was absolutely pissed. Once he finished with the meeting with the commander he immediately started his physical. My mom said the issue went all the way up to General LeMay who was the commander of SAC. My mom said they chatted for 30 minutes about movies and family. She said he was a very soft spoken man, except when he’s pissed.

On another note she went to HS with Aldo Ray. He played the SF MSG in the movie “The Green Beret”

we had company parties at a bar outside subic naval base and we had women as raffle prizes...no kidding. A bar fine was her ticket out of the bar thay night to spend time with you
