Too much heat on the starter

Hello, I just finished the resto on my 69 Dart and I am now sorting out the few things that need attention. I have a mildly built 340 with TTI headers and a mini starter. I am having some issues with the starter getting hot and not wanting to start until it cools down. My question is is there something else besides the blanket wrap over the starter? Is someone making a shield to go between the starter and header pipe? There is about a 1/2" between the header pipe and starter.
Thanks Bob

I used this type material and fixed it onto the exhaust with hose clamps, it's convoluted so it gives the heat somewhere to go.

It can be found on many late model cars, just get one from a wrecking yard for $5 and cut it to fit.

I recommend to not use it around the full diameter of the exhaust pipe as this won't allow the heat to escape and will cause premature destruction of the pipe itself.

Think of it as trying to reflect the heat away from the starter rather than trying to trap it inside the pipe.

Edit. I don't have TTI exhaust, but it's just a suggestion.
