My 72 340 demon had torque boxes but my 73 340 dart sport does not. Did they stop with them in 72?

I thought the torque boxes were for convertible cars?

My 71 demon didnt have them if i remember correctly

I dont recall my 73 340 4sp having them come to think of it.... My 69 340 4 sp has all 4....

My 70 duster 340 4 speed has them and I don't remember if my 73 dart sport had them or not

Pretty positive it's a 4 speed deal.

I have been thinking more about it and I agree that the 4 speed cars had them. When thinking on those lines maybe you all will remember the washer that is welded on the front in the middle of the K frames.I know they were put on 340 4speed cars, but don't remember why.

68 Valiant 273 auto= no torque boxes
69 Dart Swinger 340 auto= torque boxes
70 Dart swinger 340 4 speed = 3 torque boxes, 2 rear, 1 front
72 Demon /6 auto=no torque boxes

I was suprised to see rears only on a 69 Hemi Super Bee a couple weeks ago. No rhyme or reason really.

Wow, I thought the hemi's all got front and back. Maybe they ran out of them on the line that day.
So it appears that most of the small block cars only got them if they were 4 speed equipped.

My '70 B7 Swinger 340 4sp - 4 torque boxes
My '72 B5 Swinger 340 Special 3sp - 4 torque boxes
My '72 EV2 Swinger 340 Special 727auto - 4 torque boxes (so, a few auto's got them - although, this is one of the 40 or so 'Y39' special order '72 H coded Swingers for Crosstown Motor City)

4 speeds and rag tops got them.. but with the great quality control back then others slipped through with them..

The more I think about it I am sure there were none on my 73 340 4sp Sport. I dont recall hassling with Ebrake cable routing or front lwaf spring shackle nuts... And I had to redrill mounting holes when I flipped them for SS springs.

Nope.... No boxes

Hard to see beyond the lift arms on your pic but here's how they'd look - this is my '72 Swinger 340 Special 3sp manual on the rotisserie, with call-outs to the 4

Yep.... Just like my 69 Swinger.... But the 73 above has no Boxes and I know for a fact it was an original 4 sp car.

Too bad, just another indicator that the big 3 were moving away from performance, even tho the 340's from '72 & ''73 still pumped out 285 horses (240 net).
