Can some of you guy's running small blocks post a pic of your torque strap locations. I don't care if they are the fancy ones you can buy or the home made one's. I just want to see them so I can get an idea on how to do mine.

Sorry I can't post a picture, but I was interested in the Schmauchers unit and dove in on one. It was a tight fit but real nice in it's set up and abilty.
It gets mounted to the sway bar (On top) down low and the motor mount up top.

I made one from chain, and used plastic tubing on it to stop the rattling. I drilled a hole for a 5/16 bolt in the rear lip of the k-frame, and ran the chain up to the battery ground bolt on the block. Use a longer bolt on the top to account for the chain width, and a lock nut on the bottom. I always use grade 8 hardware on my work.

I use a solid bar bolted to the head and welded an L bracket under the battery box to hook it to. I also have that Schumacker deal and my motor flexes the bracket to the point it makes me nervous. Nice piece just doesn't hold my motor.

You guys must be running WAY more power than me!!
I'm jealous.
I made a solid mount out of an old stock mount. I used a 1/2 inch longer stud on the frame side, and put a piece of conveyour belt in between. Next time, I'll make the mount thinner to compensate for the thickness of the rubber belt, then I'll only do the drivers side.

I use a turnbuckle, and a section of chain. Costs under $15, and wont break. I've already repaired 2 of the Schumacher $85 ones. I should say re-engineered. They flex, and over time, they fracture along the bends. Cheap part, good concept.

Have you got a pic of that setup moper. I had heard of the turnbuckle before, just not sure of the best way to mount it.

I had run solid mounts on an old camaro I had. I didn't like the extra vibration and I also saw a guy break one of the tabs off of his block. He had a little more hp than me but I don't want to run that risk.

Sorry Coyote..My old PC croaked, my wife bought this new one, but my POS "Ebay usage" (makes everythign look nicer..lol) camera wont talk to this one. You can also make a plate that can be sandwiched between the bracket(engine) side of the mount biscuit, keep it longer by a couple of inches, and drill a hole in it, and run a chain or turnbuckle to that. My chains were run from the sway bar bracket (on an E body tho..not and A) or the K frame itself, and was what ever length I needed. The trunbuckle is larger, has 3/8 dia threads and large enclosed eyes on both ends. The chain is attached to one end, the other eye gets attached to the block/head/anywhere you can that will take soem force. Then, I tighten it up, mark the spot, loosen it, andd use a dab of blue loctite, then retighten. But, I like to leave a little slack. you dont want it to be the mount, just support it when it's stressed.

Sounds good moper. I didn't want to bolt to the nearest bolt hole in the head so I will try one of the others. When you say a little slack in the chain, do you mean just enough so that when you crack the throttle it will go tight and relieve the stress on the mount? Say about 1/32 or 1/16 of an inch??

Jack

yes..enough so it can shake around a little at idle. The mount will normally flex 1/2" or more during heavy use. I'd leave about 1/4" of slack, so it does flex a small amount, then the strap holds it. Otherwise, as the engine tries to shake, it is pulling directly on a frame member..and you'll feel it.
