TPPD 70 Duster.

It can be done on the cheap. I don't have a whole lot into my Roached Runner.

As you can see in my avatar pic, I had them on my Demon back in the early 80's. I managed to save them all these years to go on my current '71 Demon build. LOL......My nephew managed to grab them before my sister's live-in had the car crushed, as it was stored at the family homestead............But that's another story:(
When will the belly warmer be crushed?

So for the background on the duster. Father/son project that the kid ended up scattering the 7 1/4 in the car in 2002, and the car got parked….and sat until I purchased it. So far I’ve horse traded parts, flipped parts and I’ve spent a couple hundred bucks to make it run and drive. Now it has big bolt pattern disc up front, some used 90/10 Calvert shocks, a B body 8.75 with a 3.23 sure grip 489 center section.

I tossed a kit in the Holley, a new fuel pump and 6 out of the 8 plug wires got replaced. Had a new master cylinder on the shelf, and bought a conversion U joint (7260-7290) for it.

Had to the old wheels, tires, and lug nuts from my dart and some auto meter gauges laying around so I dressed the car up a bit. Progress is gonna be slow on this one since it’s strictly funded by flipping and horse trading parts, but it just goes to show you can still build a fun ratty beater on a shoe string budget.

Grand total is somewhere in the 16-1700 dollar range as it sits.

Nice Centerlines! Looks pretty good as is!

Can I see some pictures of that barracuda? Gold front wheels. Car looked sweet

Progress has been slim to none. Picked up an LD340 today that needs a repair. @TT5.9mag and his friend are gonna take care of that for me thankfully. Also he was a huge help on the mystery Continental convertor that’ll be tossed in it. Should be a fun stop light beater.

How did I not see this thread? Oh well I’m here now. The intake will be welded up today.
I told @Turbo440Dart that I’d double his money the day he bought this car. He wouldn’t take it. At least he’s keeping it cheap so it won’t cost me two arms and a leg when I do buy it.

@Turbo440Dart can share the details if he likes but we were able to save the intake. The casting was very porous and it was very dirty but lots of preheat and a very skilled aluminum tig welder (a buddy of mine not me) and it worked. We wrapped it in welding blankets to cool slowly to mitigate cracking, then it came back to my shop for finish work.

The steel pipe fitting is just a temporary piece I used to check thread depth and engagement.

Just remember, the nicer you make it the more it’ll cost when you buy it haha. I don’t have the words for the work you two did on that intake. I really don’t.

If you’re gonna fix something you might as well do it right.

Definitely trying to keep this more geared towards an old school kind of build. Scored the flex plate and valve covers today. Before anyone’s asks, they were cheap. Intake gaskets should be in tomorrow and hopefully I’ll find some time soon to slap it all together.

Pulled the duster out today. Got the LD340 and MT valve covers on it, verified it is in fact a purple shaft in the motor.

Get it all done and the old Holley decided to leak everywhere and dirty up the manifold. Gonna pull the carb another day and chase down the leak, worst case I have a 650HP loaned out to someone. Didn’t drive it other than through the back yard, it seems a little more responsive than it did with the performer intake.

probably just a bit of crap holding the needle valve open in the float chamber, easy to clean in situ as you know
neil.

Hoping it’s something simple. Had the carb apart in January, and the filters have been clean since. Fingers crossed.

Digging this.. any idea what the converter is going to stall at?

From my vague recollection it flashed somewhere around 32-3400 in my buddies duster many years ago. I know his car made more power so I’d guess it’ll be somewhere in the 3k range.

Fuel out of the boosters is stuck needles. The fuel out of the front?? No idea. WTF?

Only out of one booster which was throwing me off. Only thing I found on the secondary side was a horribly plugged air bleed. On the primary side everything looked fine, tossed a bowl gasket in there for the hell of it. Runs fine and not leaking on the primary or secondary side now so I guess it’s fixed for the time being.
