I have been having a vibration issue for a couple of years.. tried everything..

This weekend, I went to triple check the u joints and found I could move the shaft that exits the transmission (904)... probably by close to a 1 /4 inch in all directions..

There are very small flecks of metal on the splines.. the yoke seems to be loose on the shaft when installed( some back and forth movement when turning it with Trans in gear..

I am presuming the shaft should not move..
Is this repairable or is a different transmission in my future..

And Is the a500 the same external size as the 904?( if I have to replace this one.

Thanks for your help.

probably the rear bushing in the tailshaft...

the tailshaft can be removed without dropping the trans...

six bolts..and large snap ring to remove..but you will need to support trans as the mount is on the tailshaft....

take tailshaft to trans shop and have them remove and replace the bushing and seal...

if you have access to the bushing driver you can do it yourself ..pretty simple.

The A500 is not the same size as a 904. It has a much larger diameter and somewhat longer output section. It won't fit without some surgery.

the a500 has an overdrive section in it....front half is 904 based trans...

have to cut floor pan and redo crossmember to make fit...
