Can anyone recommend a good car transporter? Looking to haul a car from Oregon to New York. Have been getting the run around from a few places and one place told me that "if they trash my car, its not there fault" and that "they are not liable" this coming from a major transporting company by the name of DAS (Dependable Auto Shippers). If I pay them $300 above the quoted cost they will cover "any and all damages up to $50,000 if I pay them a $250.00 deductible if I report damage. Is it just me or how WHACK is this? Im new to this so maybe thats how it goes.......Anyways, who would you recommend? I am looking for a transporter. Thanks.

That's totally rediculous! Sounds like they're trying to milk you for more $'s. Isn't DAS the company that ebay always recommends?

DAS is a joke. They wouldn't even reply to my request for information. I'd recommend who I normally use, but I usually go South to North. Good luck either way.

The funny thing is that all of these transporters (the drivers themselves) are liable for any damage that comes to those cars. I wanted to be a car hauler because of all the money they make, till they told me that BS. To DAS' credit, they do have enclosed transport, although I have no idea how much that will cost.

I've been seeing one alot lately I think it was "Classic"..really nice nascar style trailers. There is also an independent in western PA, he's my neighbors uncle, I'll try to get you a number.

Well, might be uninformed on my part, but I used DAS to ship a car from CA to NM. No problems what so ever. Got a few quotes off thier website and jumped on a cheaper one as they went down as the day got closer to ship. Called, got a rep, told them the price I got on the web and booked it. Said nothing about the "call rep" thing that came up when I inputted the year etc. so paid no extra charge for having an older car.

Went like clockwork, had online tracking and even delivered the car early. Was a lot cheaper for me to do that than the calculated cost for me to go get it and rent a tow dolly or something.

Maybe foolish, but I did not take the insurance. Just the transport. They send you a liablity slip via email for you to agree to before they ship. Then it is on the way. A gamble I guess, but I've shipped 15 to 17 cars from other countries. Some with insurance and some without. The insurance was a pure hassle to deal with when I did get one damaged. Basically a no insurance at all type deal if you really got down to it. Sort of like a lot of the warranties out there. By the time you read down through all the fine print there are enough loop holes that nothing is covered. Did kick up enough of a stink that I got partial payment for the damage.

Just my 2p.

Best of luck.

Cheers

I wonder if getting the car insured through my own insurance company would be better. Hate to file a claim though and make "my" rates increase especially if it was not my fault though......I know what you mean about all the "loop holes" my father had a car shipped and it arrived safely up to the point the truck driver tried to take it off the trailer in my fathers yard (with my father right there watching) somehow the car managed to fall off the ramp and side swipe the side pillars on the hauler leaving a nice long dent!! He still went through hell trying to get them to cover that! After 6 months they sent him the max limit of $300 to offset the damage. You and I both know that $300 does not even cover the paint these days let alone someone to work on it. Yes, he got a raw deal.....

Hey Aaron,
You didn't have to go all that way for a car! I've got that sweet 89 Escort I would have givin you a deal on.It's almost 19 years old and soon to be a classic!
