Trick Flow 440 heads, The Real Deal?

-
Torque peak of 630 ft-lbs is at 5100 rpm, HP peak of 675 hp is at 6100 rpm. This is with the Dominator carb and the smaller cam. I tried a larger cam that peaked a few hundred RPM higher, but the lower speed torque was off a lot. Seems like the smaller cam works better in this combo but I'm still working on it. I'm trying to figure out what to do next with the cam.

I also need to play around with some different carb spacers, try some different spark plugs and play with the ignition timing. So far I've just been running it at 35 degrees of advance so there might be some more power hiding in the ignition. Dyno time is expensive so I can't always test everything I want to.

I bet with e85 you'd be over 700 hp.

Has anyone checked the geometry on these heads with a set of adjustable ductile rockers like crane or isky?

I looked at them briefly. Looked fine to me to about .700 lift.

They work on the 383!

Younggun, few questions for ya, do your pistons have valve reliefs? I believe your cam was the .525 comp? If so what head gaskets did you use and what was your piston/valve clearance. Thanks

No pistons are flat top speed pro's with no reliefs. They are down in the hole quite a ways. Used .039 thick head gasket.

Thanks, just trying to get a gauge on if my pistons will work, small dome arias pistons somewhat like the kb400s, .022 in the hole. They work with factory closed chamber heads but I know the trickflow chambers are different

I swapped the cam, intake and carb on my 470. Best combo so far made 675 hp and 630 ft-lbs of torque. Running unleaded fuel with 10.5 compression. I'd like to hit 700 hp but I think it will take a custom cam and some intake porting to get there.

I changed over to a new cam and picked up another 10 hp so now I'm at 685. I'm sending the intake to Wilson for porting and then we'll try it again. I also have a new 950 Dominator on the way.

The new intake manifolds from Trick Flow are supposed to be ready to ship. I have my order in for one of them.

Are they doing a low deck version?

Yes. Both the low deck version and the RB version are listed on Summit with a ship date in Feb.

Trick Flow also has new cast valve covers for BB Mopars in their new catalog. The valve covers look tough. Much beefier looking than the Mopar Performance covers. I'm going to order myself a set.

I also see that Trick Flow is offering a one stop shopping top end kit. The top end kit includes heads, intake, rocker arms, bolts, etc. So they are trying to make it easy to swap over. They are also offering a hyd roller camshaft and hyd roller lifters now. Looks like they decided to get into the Mopar business in a big way.

Thanks again to AndyF,MRL And IQ52 for all their kindness sharing there builds.

No problem. I got the engine off the dyno and back on the stand while I wait for the new intake manifold. Nothing to fix on this guy. No leaks, no drips. Everything looks just fine after 27 dyno pulls!

I'm going to assume now that their valve covers won't work in an A-body with out removing the blower motor or modifying them.

The new valve covers are in the 2016 catalog on their website.

Many thanks to Andy F, IQ52 and Mike at MRL for their very generous sharing of data.

If I need to spend money with a builder, these guys will get it before all others.
