I am about to pull the trigger on buying either ..........
Trickflow 240's and trickflow intake both ported by Larry Smith ..
OR
Trickflow 270's ( complete ) and only Indy intake 400-2 ported by Larry Smith...

Which way would you guys to with .. goal is near 700 HP and near same TQ.. 11:1 pump gas motor ...4150 carb.......... let me know if you need further info ...
Thanks for your help,,,,,,,,,,,

I've done it both ways. The 240 heads will make 700 hp without much trouble, my 470 with 270 heads is making 775 hp. I've posted a bunch of threads on this site as well as published articles on the Hot Rod website so just dig around a little bit and you'll find them.

I've seen the numbers Larry gets when he ports both 240's and 270's as well as what stock 270's flow. Best bang for the buck is the 240's ported. The ported 240's will flow more than the stock 270's and be better suited for a 470. If you are stroking to a 511 it will probably be a coin toss. Bigger than that and the 270's leave you room for picking up a little more later should you want to go that route. I was one of the first sets of 270's Larry did and got some great numbers out of them ([email protected]). If I hadn't got my 270's for the price of the 240's, I would have gone the 240 route. I say this because the bigger ports are a little softer down low for all the street driving my car sees. Not horrible but not a snappy as my old stage 6's were.

Have you posted the rest of the engine build ? Would be interesting !

I mostly followed Andy's build except with my 526" shortblock.

Here is the total build:
4.375 x 4.375 RB with race block prep and oiling mods by muscle motors.
Hughes girdle.
ARP bolts/studs everywhere
Milodon oil pump (internally ported) with adjustable pressure regulator.
Blueprinted Eagle crank and rods (7.100" w/.990 tapered tool steel pins)
Ross custom forged reverse dome pistons at zero deck
.031 4.380 bore Cometic MLS head gaskets
Total bob weight 2275
Trick flow power port 270's (78cc chambers with full port job by Larry Smith)
Hughes 1.6 rockers (with geometry corrected by Mike Beachel at B3 Racing). Rockers were converted to use Trend ball-end-pushrod adjusters for better geometry.
Trend 7/16" .165 oil thru pushrods
Custom ground Bullet solid roller cam (.715/.714 lift tight lash [email protected] intake/[email protected] exhaust
MRL ProPlus lifters
ProGear double roller timing set
Indy 440-2 intake modified and fully ported by Larry also.
850 Mighty Demon carb for now. It will be replaced in the spring by a BLP 1050 with annular boosters.
Ignition by MSD (wires, dizzy, digital 6 box) with Jacobs Ultra-coil
TTI 2" headers feeding into a 3" x-pipe exhaust.

This all goes in my 3800 lb. beast with a Cope 727 with purpose built Ultimate 9.5" 4000 stall converter.
I have a new S-60 4.10 rear end on order now as the 8-3/4 won't live in front of this motor for long.

Next year will be fun when I can get it to the track. I can post the flow numbers if you want them.

I can guarantee if you build anything close to this you will be very happy. I am very confident my combo should put me in the low 10's (possibly high 9's) with my b-body so it would be tough for you to go wrong whichever way you choose if going into an a-body. Andy's builds seem like they are very pump gas friendly and so far I have found this combo to be very streetable despite the bigger cam.

Thanks Andy and Brewzer...........
240's it is ...........only issue i have was the Trickflow intake will not fit underhood ... Guessing, how much HP/TQ will be lost if i use a Street Dominator fully ported compared to a TRICKFLOW intake ?

Thanks Andy and Brewzer...........

Same problem here on the under hood thing, " I run a filter". Would be no problem on a racecar w/ a hood scoop.

Larry has the 240's and Trickflow intake ... i was hoping to get them this month , but i heard Larry exhibited some personal issues .. I will post pictures and numbers when i get them .........

I've been curious how a ported street dominator intake would work with the 240 heads also.

I would be interested in seeing flow numbers on it> I am playing w/ a flow box that I built, so I can tell the diff between runners , so I can average them out. (or see if I can!) I am playing w/ a weiand team G at the moment, it is one of the worst ones out there for differences between runners. I have made a great amount of progress on it , but still too low on 2 -7 runners, but have some ideas. I like it because it has a huge plenum, which should be great for a 500" motor. -I`ll see.

Here are photos and results to TRICKFLOW 240's ported by Larry Smith... waiting for them to arrive next day or so... larry still working on dual plane Eddie performer ( ported )... Let me know what you think .. Thanks

look kick a$$ to me ! MY HOT IDEA FOR A DEVISE TO CHECK AIR FLOW VOLUME IN THE RUNNERS WENT BELLY UP, CRAP , WHAT TO DO KNOW ?? Disregard caps !

still working on it......been concentrating on vehicle side ....frame ties currently then american autowire conversion....but i did attend a mopar weekend at norwalk and seen a b block in a 69 dart with a 383 victor with a 1 inch spacer... top of air cleaner looks like it would of definately fit if spacer was not there.....i also like TF flow intake rpm range compared to victor tf >3000-7000 rpm vic> 3500-7500 rpm

M1 single plane fit with drop base air cleaner under a flat hood on my dart with b motor. If you can find a height chart maybe you can compare them but I m not sure trick flow of Victor would fit an air cleaner.

Do you know approximately how many cc's was taken out of the 240cc port to get these figures?
