Trunk Extension (Drainage hole?)

Hello,

I ordered new trunk extensions for my 73 Scamp and they have these large holes in them. The original ones do not have these (unless totally trusted out)!

Seems like it would be better for me to weld a patch and close the hole!

Opinions? Facts?

The holes were there, you just didn't notice them because of the rust. There was a plastic plug in them before they left the factory...

Mine were grey and as you can see they have a drain hole provision.
