I have a steep driveway and the decklid closes on its own when parked head in.

Now i noticed there are slotted holes where the torsion bars could adjust to. At the moment they are set in the farthest holes forward towards front of car. Would moving them back add tension? Also is there any trick into moving them?

I think that if they are in the full forward position, that you can bring them back and get more pressure on the lid, big pry bar works for me, they can be difficult.

Have a buddy hold up the trunk lid while you do this. As soon as you pop the spring rod out the lid will come down.

Thanks big prybar and pair of channel locks, with helping hand worked great, one notch back. Trunk now pops open and lifts half way on my steep driveway. Giving a nudge lifts it the rest of the way. On flat ground should work beautifully

What have you got for tension on the rear trunk? I got a Barracuda and there is no spring whatsoever. Never had a Valiant though....sort of like the front hood torsion bars?
