My question is: What can I use as a sealant between the new base and old base? I plan on using a few rivets but want to seal between the two bases. Is heat going to be an issue? Is gasket sealant a good item?

Use some seam sealer and /or panel bond. Most Auto body shops use this stuff all the time..

I used JB Weld on mine. That was at least 15 years ago. It's never coming apart again. Seam sealer would work great too. I never thought of that.

You better see if your hood will close if there is no hole. That air breather you are making will stick through the hood. You removed the recess built in for the carb..

I will trial fit before I make it permanent. I have seam sealer. I was worried about the heat if that would be an issue. All good advice.

On my build thread I noted I would probably have to go to a dropped base.
On some of the treads on this subject with an Air Gap style intake a few people had a stock cleaner clear. I went out tonight and tried to get a better feel for the height. I think I am going a completely different route. The flat base I was playing with definitely made the situation worse. I can make some other adjustments but there are a lot more simpler solutions. Thanks for all the suggestions.

No matter what, I would run the original diameter filter. I picked up 1/10th ditching that filter for a 12” diameter one. If you were closer, I would spot weld it together for you. So looking again that is the stock diameter. Larger would be better even though it brings it closer to the outer wall.

You could just cut a gasket out of gasket paper if there is an area of overlap. Then your original plan of riveting it would work. I personally like the welded and seam sealed idea.

Mancini sells a drop base that fits a standard 13 inch Chrysler filter. I am not sure what size filter your lid fits.
