Hello, Guys and Gals,

My turn signal has stopped cancelling when I make a left turn. I'm guessing that an arm has broken off the cancel cam. I thought that I had seen a thread a while ago that talked about the cancel cam, but I can't find it now. If I remember correctly, someone had replaced a broken cancel cam with a remanufactured cam, and they stated that the new material was not stiff enough, and the cam did not work correctly.

Does anyone have information on remanufactured cancel cams, or have a used cam they would part with?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I can't help with replacing a cancel cam, but I would suggest getting a whole new switch instead of trying to repair a 40 year old electrical switch that just happens to control your brake lights also. They are still available from the dealer, and since you're going to have it torn apart, I would just replace the whole thing. Just my opinion though.

70Duster,

Tlhanks for the information. How is the cam working for you? How easy was it to replace?

What model year vehicle do you have? Early models have wiring in the cancel cam. Later models are just the plastic cancel cam.

It has worked fine for me. I replaced it as part of a column rebuild so it wasn't a big deal. Still, you could do it in the car pretty easily. You have to splice two wires (shown in the NAPA pic) to the existing ones. After you remove the steering wheel there's a long screw that retains the turn signal lever. You may have to remove the screws to the switch in order to pull the wires out farther - but that should be it.

Do a search for "switch repair" on the NAPA site for your year, make, and model.

Before you buy a new cam: What year is your A-body? For the '62-'66 cars, there is a cam available that is better-made of of much better, higher quality material than the Shee-Mar or NAPA (etc.) replacement cams, but costs about the same. It matters because the pre-'67 turn signal switch design puts relatively high load on the cancelling fingers and the cheaper material tends to snap. See here for info.

Thanks to all for the great information. I have a 67 Barracuda. I'll check out the Koldos replacement and see if he has one for my model.
