Turning a 74 into a 72

From the picture it looks very cool. If it's nice this weekend we will have to take both of ours out and meet for breakfast.
 
What? I have always been told their never done. And you are saying your done? I will say you have DONE a great job:cheers:=D>. Taking it from the old 74 to the new 72. I have been following your thread from close to the begining:happy1:.

Going to try and find someone to line the front end up today.

I still have an issue with the title, but have taken the necessary steps to get that resolved.
It's still a 74 and will be titled as such.

Steve, that would be fun to take it for a short trip to the coffee shop if I can the alinement done by then.
Nothing else maybe I'll drive it over to your place for a BS session out in the shop!

Shoot I forgot I had to send one of my tail lights back to be fixed, so I guess it won't be on the road till I get it back.
 
just went through your build. awesome work! really inspiring and i love your choice of color. would really like to see some photos of it out in the sun :) i think the rims were a good choice also, it really sets it off :) good job!
 
Thanks Fez440, I've been wanting to get it out in the sun for some pictures but the sun keeps hiding behind the clouds! Maybe the sun will show it's face this week end for some pic's.
I really like the way the rims look too, the gray centers look nice against the blue.
 
Still working on the beast some, put a new Holley 670 Street Avenger on it.
Went to move it out of the shop the other day and wouldn't go into gear.
The shifter cable on my B&M shifter was to close to the header and burnt through.
So I need to order a new one.

Still have some chrome at the shop I'm waiting on too.
The pieces I'm waiting on are the trunk lip, the eye brow pieces that go on the rear extentions and the long pieces that go between the tires on the rocker panels.

Should be getting them back sometime this week.
 
Hay there stan, I've been reading your thread for about three hours and I am still in disbelief that I have never seen it before today. I'm located on Camano Island and am building a 67 Cuda fastback, but I had a transformed 73 Dart when I was in school. I wished I still had her. Your car is bringing back fond memories. I hope we can meet some day. I am actually building my car at my brothers shop in Mount Vernon because he has a much better shop. Anyways, I just wanted to say hi and I love your thread on your car. Great work and patience!!!:glasses7:
 
Looks great Stan! I'm going to be in Lake Stevens here in a couple months visiting my brother-hopefully we can get his Scamp put back together and driving. It's a basket case, but if we can at least get it running, motivation to get bodywork done will be easier.
 
Car looks great! You may have posted it but I missed it. What size wheels and tires front and rear( back space too please)? I'm trying to figure out which way to go on my 71. I may not mini tub it and I'm try to figure offsets. Thanks, Russ

17" X 7" on the front and 17" X 8" on the rear. Sorry don't no if I ever found out what the back spacing was, or at least my old mind can't remember.
 
Well got a little more done today. Replaced the B&M shifter cable with a heavey duty one. Had to take the drivers seat out and pull up the carpet to get at the hole the cable went through.

Though I would try and start it but the battery was dead, my charger kept saying there was a fault. Took it back to where I bought it and it checked out okay. They are going to charge it for me and I'll pick it back up tomorrow.

Though I was done with the dart but I guess your never really done. Bought some new tail light lenses off ebay for 71 to 73 darts, what a waist of money. They sent me 4 left side lenses and when I complained was told that they will work they just look a little funny. made in Mexico! I could have shipped them back but think I'll just keep them to remind me to take care when purchasing things.

Still have to get it inspected by the state patrol because it had a lost title, but have to get it running before I car take it there. Can't wait to drive it around town!
 
Well we tried to start the dart a while back and figured out that the electric fuel pump was toast. Put in a new Holley pump and she fired right up.

Took it for a ride around the block and it died just before getting home.
Blew the fuel pump fuse, put in a new one and made it back to the shop okay.

Still need to do some fine tuning and get the lost title taken care of. Only thing left to do for the title is get the state patrol inspection. Then it's time to hit the road for a good drive

Didn't do to much fabrication. When we installed the 72 tail panel there was a space in the trunk we had to make some patch panels for because of the difference of how the bumper mounted.
Also had to remove the front bumper supports from the frame of the 72 and install them in the frame of the 74 because of the different way the bumpers mounted.

Made a couple patches to repair the lips on the front fenders also.

Biggest mod was replacing the 74 tail panel with the 72's. Lots of spot weld drilling and welding.
One other thing I can think of was repairing the spare tire well.

Did you have any issues using the 74 trunk lid?
