The other day I got the 72 Dart ready for anytime driving duty since it has always been registered and insured but almost never driven.
I noticed a miss that wasn’t there before and tracked it down by inserting a test light between the wires and caps on the distributor.
Yep, cylinder number 5.
I pulled the wire from the distributor had a good spark at that terminal, so I put the wire back on and stuck my screwdriver in the end and layed it on the intake = Nothing.
I pulled the wire again and noticed a soft spot in the silicone casing.
Yep, there it is.
Runs great again.
Burned the core right out of it.

First time I saw something like that was about 1972. This was before silicone, and was then factory type resistor wires.
