I'm thinking perhaps you have a reading comprehension problem...I said it's a WASTE OF TIME, there is MORE POWER IN A STRAIGHT ROUND BORE, than a worn out bore with a backwards piston. And I also said IF YOUR BUILDING A WORN OUT POS core engine it MIGHT BE WORTH 5 hp....
Allready mentioned that in post 143
Just stumbled onto this thread and just I don't get it. Racers and hot rodders have always been looking for horsepower. Even better when it is free. Especially back in the old school days. Are fresh bores, new pistons and rings better? Absolutely but if you are freshening up an engine on a budget, why not? Pistons $500, install on rods $65, fresh bores $700, balance $350.
If it's good enough for Direct Connection, Smoky Yunick, David Vizard and Bill Jenkins there just might be something there for Joe Average.
I could be wrong, but I seem to recall Smokey Yunick claiming there was a small amount of power to be made with offset piston pins.
Dulcich just likes hearing himself saying it "Freiburger.." Fur burger".."turd burglar"...it all has a nice ring...anyway back to the Uncle Tony bullshit..it's just that bullshit. Ill say it again, I wonder how may out there will tear down their 318s to flip the pistons cause UTG said so...Or the boy scouts.
That's an old school thing, the last name.
I have to agree. OR anyone who would do it based off what UTG says, without giving it much thought at all...must have plenty of time on their hands and money for gaskets.Yeah...”great” idea.
Take apart an engine, spend the money on gaskets to achieve a gain that nobody can feel.
Cant disagree there, and the thing is, Smokey, Vizard, AND Dulcich have all done actual dyno testing, utg is just parroting something he read in a book, therefore he just doesn't have the credibility in my opinion.i put more stock (get it, get it?) into what Smokey said then in Tony, frei and the other guy put together
to me he is mostly entertainment. He does offer some points worth pondering and it's obvious he's been around cars all his life. He does more inspiration for the hobby for newbies than many folks. In general, he seems good hearted. I watch, at my convenient and IF it's something I'm interested in watching. But I watch anyone racing old mopars that are backyard builds on a dirt budget.I find all kinds of channels interesting, and I watch a pretty wide variety, because there are things to be learned in a lot of them, and yes I do watch UTG, I find it entertaining at times, cringeworthy lots of times, and gives people things to discuss
UTG is living rent free in a lot of people's minds
All who still watch.Dulcich just likes hearing himself saying it "Freiburger.." Fur burger".."turd burglar"...it all has a nice ring...anyway back to the Uncle Tony bullshit..it's just that bullshit. Ill say it again, I wonder how may out there will tear down their 318s to flip the pistons cause UTG said so...
Nobody would ever pay to be in anyone's head. This phrase makes no practical sense.
100% agree with EVERY word. Not sure about the rental theory, but what I DO know, is that by viewing his videos, talking about them on here, and getting others to join the conversation, (and watch) I'm actually MAKING him money....lol... now I on the other hand, as a machinist and engine builder, make money by providing a quality product to my customers, a product which I stand behind. Pretty stark difference.
Hes to ADD to be fun to hang out with..it would get old quick...And I think hes probably a cool guy to hang out with, I've even stated that in the past, hell I'd have a beer with him, it's not anything on a personal level, I just think his technical knowledge is beginner level.
UT? yeah Id watch him be a hack on his car, all the while not letting him near mine...Not sure about the rental theory, but what I DO know, is that by viewing his videos, talking about them on here, and getting others to join the conversation, (and watch) I'm actually MAKING him money....lol... now I on the other hand, as a machinist and engine builder, make money by providing a quality product to my customers, a product which I stand behind. Like a wise older man told me in my youth, "Here is my opinion and advice, take it if you like or not...listen to all that you can, and then determine what suits you and what is helpful and what might be real".
