Upgrading alternator on '65 Chrysler Newport?

I have a higher amp alternator to go on my '65 Newport. It is the '78 or so with the square back. How would I go about upgrading the wiring to accept the higher amperage safely? (ie-no fire hazard or problems at the bulk head)..

Take along a big grain of salt when you go reading that halfaѕѕed advice from the Chevy-heads at madelectrical. See here. Also, think twice before you make the final decision to use the '78 alternator. You can do a great deal better by going another 11 years newer. See here for more info.

Yup. NO1 main thing to do is run a larger, nice big, not to mention #huge wire, about no8 or 6, depending on the alternator, from the alternator output to the starter relay stud.

Pull the bulkhead connector and inspect it. Jumper the ammeter connectors together.
