Good evening everyone,

This summer I am hoping to upgrade my current ignition system from single points to the factory electronic ignition with the rev-n-nator box. Now my question is the preferred or recommended factory style distributor... I can get a remanufactured or there are a lot of good reviews of the firecore distributor. Is there much of a difference between these two dizzys? Any help or experience would be appreciated!
Thanks
Kyle

I have no idea what a "firecore" distributor is

You didn't say, but a wild guess, from your name, is this is for a slant? or whut?

The problem with "rebuilts" is that you don't know what you are getting, I don't care WHAT the application / catalog said. Most / all will have a 70's "smog" advance--not the best for performance. That is, "figgure" on recurving the dist. or at least finding some lighter springs

The firecore distributor is another version of the "Ready to run" types.

Here's a Mopar article on testing.

Has anyone had any experience or knowledge of any performance change when switching from an oem style/mopar distributor to the firecore?

Also yes this is going on a 340.

Of course there is a performance change, and there always is when switching from a standard ignition to an HEI system no matter who makes it.
As far a the firecore quality and reliability I have no personal experience.

I Do. My dads 440 had an old Mopar unit (factory type one not the Mallory built one) we bought new in the early 90's and we swapped it to a FireCore unit when the engine was rebuilt last year. Plug and play with the factory electric ignition and easy to adjust the advance with a kit from Mallory or there is a drill bit diameter to slot length conversion I found that works too. It was a nice set up, uses factory caps and rotor. As I understand the Mopar brand units have an issue with cross firing? I'll be replacing the Mopar unit in my 340 with one.

As per performance, it worked, the engine doesn't miss a beat and will sit you back in your seat.

recently installed firecore dizzy on my 318 demon, reluctor gas varied from 007 to 012, ran it and chewed up two blades on reluctor, replaced reluctor , still varied gaps, runs not bad, sounds like crap past 5600, slight surging sound at 3000. stock mopar dizzy no surging and I jammed out at 6300(stock hd valvetrain with 284/484 cam)! I think I should of went with dui tri power dizzy?!

As far as the cross firing goes could you elaborate with a little more info ??
I have a mopar perf unit and my car sometimes runs erratic. I noticed that I could hear sparking in the cap but haven't had time to delve into it.
No intention of hi jacking.

The Orange box, Accel Supercoil and ancient OEM distributor w/mag trigger in my sbm goes 7200 all day long, and for 125000miles already. Ive tried other systems; non were as reliable as that. I carry a spare pick-up. Never needed it,Yet. 14 years and counting.-- PS;my red-top Optima is also 14 years old and still starts my car every spring after 7 or 8 months of outdoor, in the snowbank,-35*C, storage. I cringed at the purchase price in year 2000. Turns out to have been the cheapist battery I ever bought. And,in the trunk, it never needs post cleaning. Winner!
