What parts are useable from an '88 5th Ave. on a '71 Dart?

I'm about pick up one an I want to make sure I get the most I can out of it for my dart.

I Plan to use the 318, trans, disk brakes, rear drum brakes ......

The dart will have a spool mount k member, power steering, 8 1/4(from an a body) .....

How hard will it be to use the lock up trans?

Thanks,

C

im using the radiator and fan shroud in my duster along with the driveshaft (shortened for a 727) out of an 88 lebaron. i am pretty sure they are about the same exact car. i would use the 904 and 318 together if you are going to use them. im pretty sure the trans mount is usable as well. if it has 15" steels that you find yourself not using, i would be interested in a couple of them (without tires). the 8 1/4 and disc brake set up is worth keeping (somewhere i read the spindles can be used with an A body big bolt upper and lower control arms) .im not sure how wide the 8 1/4 is but ive also heard of these being used on A bodies with the perches moved, it should also have 11" drums. i have parted a few of these out, but it has been awhile. and i could use at least 2 15" steels if you have a couple left over (o wait , i already said that lol)

Yeah the brakes are a bolt on swap. Spindles and all. All you need are the 73-76 BBP upper control arms and lower ball joints both from a disk brake car and it'll all come together like a beautiful dream. I am even doing it on my 63.

The trans will work good, its a hydraulic lock up( no electronics involved) locks up around 40 mph lowers RPMs by about 200. The 318 will have 302 heads, follow FABO treads on building this motor for decent power and good milage. The wheels are 15x7 bbp. Also take the master cylinder, power steering box (large sector) power steering pump

that may be a low first gear trans.

15x7 wheels

disc brakes.

the rear drum brakes.

may have the police type of steering box too.

the wheels are not necessarily 15 x 7 . there were 15 x 6 and 15 x 6.5 used on all those models.

Here are some interior parts that I harvested from an '88 M body for my Duster: rear view mirror, 3rd brake light, window cranks, door lock ferrules.

Hmm 3rd brake light switch! Nice safety upgrade. I'd do this willingly, but it would have to be done cool.I have a couple thought's on this...

That 318 may be a roller cam,if so along with the swirlport 302 heads it will run real good with a small 4 barrel carb. put one in my truck,, lots of power from that 318.
Chack if it has a donut spare.when you do a disc/big bolt swap they fit in the spare tire well of the A body and then you have a nice flat trunk floor. Grab the scissor jack, they come in handy.

You guys are a great help. :D

So far there is the 318(should be a roller cam), 904 trans(lock up), radiator, steering box, front brake assembly and knuckles, brake prop valve, rear drum brakes, elect trunk latch, misc. interior parts(ferruls, handles etc) wheels, spare tire, jack, power steering pump, alternator........

What about the exhaust manifolds?.... and the ignition, the voltage regulator, engine wiring harness, ????

Anything I am missing?

As far as my plans for the engine go...

Ill leave the 318 stock with just a simple freshening( new gaskets, seals-good inspection /cleaning) a late 70's-early 80's 318-360 stock 4bbl intake manifold, a 570 cfm holley street avenger and dual exhaust using either the stock manifolds or a set of summit headers. Nothing special at all. Just making use of some parts I already have and those Ill be getting off of the %th Ave.
Ill use the ignition from this engine if I can to help keep cost down.

The same aproach will go for the trans, new filter, gasket, seals, inspection and cleaning.

The car has less than 88k miles on it. I know the owners and know the history of the car. The vast majority of those miles were highway miles.

My build is a low buck deal. No special/expensive parts. It just has to work and be safe. Start, drive, stop and be reliable but most of all be LOW Dollar.

:D

Thanks again,
C

Rear sway bar if it has one. There is a tech article online showing how its done.
I use parts from that long cable right remote mirror to build a A-body right remote mirror.
The cruise control will bolt in most a-bodies.

RE: exhaust manifold. Right side is no problem. If you have power steering the left manifold will not work. Too bad, as they are much larger than the stock A body manifolds.
You should be able to sell the 8 1/4 rear if you don't use it. As mentioned, it will adapt to the A body.

Don't get rid of your A body parts yet... from my experience (with a '72 Duster) the radiator would not fit, the engine was not a roller cam and it had a lean burn distributer on it.

i have a 2 core radiator and shroud in my 73 duster right now that i got out of a 318 88 le baron that was virtually a direct bolt in. they work great AND it would be a perfect match for the 318, if you dont want to use an aftermarket set-up
