That is cool. I've been wanting to check out the USS North Carolina sometime as it would be a good weekend trip. What years was the USS Texas in service?

I've been on the aircraft carrier USS Lexington (now a museum near Corpus Christi, Texas). My son got to spend the night on her with his 8th grade class. It's a yearly thing that a lot of schools do as a field trip. Very cool.

Thanks for the pics!

I've always been a WWII history buff, especially the Pacific theater. But I've never been on any of the big ships. I may have been on a Destroyer Escort and/or a German U-boat when I lived in Cleveland, OHIO. Through school I use to bury myself in a Jane's Fighting Ships book or anything else with WWII ship specs and histories and could rattle off hull numbers, armaments, displacements, etc. I still remembr many.

* I have seen the battleship Alabama in Mobile Bay from the highway every time I've gone to Louisiana and Texas to race.

* I always think about the North Carolina in Wilmington when traveling north on I-95.

* Always wanted to visit Pearl Harbor and they now have the Missouri there.

* I forgot at the moment which carrier they have/had in Charlston, SC.

* They recently sank the carrier Oriskany (spelling) in the Gulf of Mexico to make a reef/fish habitat.

One of these days I gotta make some time!

did you visit the USS texas just recently. I can see her from the docks I work at everyday. at Xmas they light her up its pretty cool. they have been working on the restoration for a long time. the Monument across the street just reopened about a year ago.
