Well, I won the ebay auction and now need to arrange transportation for my new '64 Dart from Arizona to Texas. I've called a few places and wound up with more questions than answers. I discovered that lots of the car transport internet hits are for "brokers". I know they arrange for the actual transporters to do the job, but why do I need a middleman? Seems like it could be cheaper to deal directly with the folks transporting the cars, or perhaps the companies that hire the drivers directly.

I read in a review on one of those sites that someone was denying to a potential customer that the company was a broker. Why would a broker deny the nature of their business? Is there something "sleazy" about brokers, such that dealing directly with the transporter would be better? Or is there something wrong with dealing direct such that a broker could be of genuine service in avoiding hassles or problems?

Thanks very much for any input.

Made the mistake of trying to get a quote once.....2 years later they were still calling/emailing/snail mailing me crap. Believe the site I contacted was an actual shipping company....good luck....

I have been there. I contacted U Ship and here came all the emails. If Jennifer would deliver it, I would let her.

Sent a friend that ships quite a few cars an email trying to find out who he uses. He deals direct with the shipping company, never been screwed around by a no/late showing up driver. Will let you know if I hear back from him........

I used DAS (dependable auto shippers) to get my wife's '68 'Cuda from Oregon to Fla.Their service was anything but Dependable, and I wouldn't reccomend them to my worst enemy !!! JMO:mumum:

i called around to get my new project car shipped..it was cheaper for me to go get it myself..from nc to fld. took 8hrs thats with stopping for fuel and stopping to eat..loaded car talked for a few min. hit the road again stop for fuel and rest room and fuel home by 430 am sat. morning..oh i left friday morning at 10..00am..lol took my son and some good buddies talked all the way and had a blast..would do it all over again if need..but if you are really set to get it shipped go to .....the truckers report forum .com i am a member there as i am a truck driver and look under transport. you will have to join then ask if there is someone that came do it for you..sometime there are guys going that way dead head (empty) that would love to make the extra money..:D:D:D:D

Thanks, earthmover. My last adventure to pick up a vehicle wasn't so pleasant. I drove to Phoenix paid for the car THEN found out that a trailer rental company that shall remain nameless would not rent me a dolly to haul the car with my Dakota - said it was too much weight and would be unsafe. So, I told the NEXT rental place that I was towing a VW beetle. God only knows what a hassle that lie could have caused in case of a wreck!

So I took the dolly back to the previous owner's place and learned the joys of loading a non-op vehicle onto a dolly. I got on the road and the car tried to unload itself. Fortunately a friend in town was able to help reload, and I took the night off. After that, it was just a long haul east on I-10. I've had worse experiences, but I swore to do it differently next time.

My NEW old car (also in Phoenix) is at least driveable, but the A/C is non-op. I thought about taking the bus out and driving the car back - then I thought again! That would be a LONG drive in an unproven vehicle with no A/C in high summertime across Southern Arizona and New Mexico and a big chunk of Texas. So, that's why I'm checking car haulers!!!

Thanks for the lead on the truckers' forum. I'll check it out.

Thanks for the tip, recerx, I called Fedex and found that they stopped transporting vehicles at least a year ago. I would probably have used them, just 'cause I've used Fedex for years with no problems ever. I'm finding out a lot about vehicle shipping and it's kinda tough to sort through it all.

Try reliable auto transport. Good folks to deal with and reasonable pricing.

Thanks for the lead, gtmopar, I got many hits Googling "reliable auto transport". I didn't find a company doing business by that name. Lots of companies websites featuring the claim that they offer "reliable auto transport", but no company by that exact name.
