I am trying to remove a very stubron head gasket on my 340. I have been trying to pry it off and am getting nowhere. I have broken a screwdriver tip, and am worried about eroding metal off the head or damaging the manifold. I think that the gasket was put on with gasketcinch.

Are there any ways to get this off without having to use excessive force?

I've never had trouble getting a head gasket off like you are describing. Can you post a pic so we can see what the issue is ? It sounds like the gasket may already be off - is it stuck to the head ?

Are you saying that the head is still stuck to the block or that the gasket alone is stuck? If the head is still stuck you can get more leverage by putting a pry-bar in one of the intake ports and prying. It works much better than trying to get a screwdriver between the head and block. It is best to leave a couple of head bolts in the block but loose so when it pops loose you won't flush you head on the floor or engine compartment.

Reminds me of a time when a freind of mine tried to take a head off with a bolt still bolting the head down. Try and try he may have done to the tune of sweat pooring of his head he did. LOL!

I have in the passed have very stubborn gacskets. Try this;

With a gasket scraper and a small ball peen hammer, tap tap tap away. Take your time. I had to do this last time arond myself.

Actually, I do not want to remove the head, just the intake manifold gasket. the intake manifold rests on the heads and there is a gasket between each head and the intake. (I hope in my origional post I didn't say head by mistake) The problem is that the intake gasket was put on using gaskacinch(I belive) I have tried to pound a pry bar between the intake manifold and the head, with no avail. I tried to drive a screwdriver between the head and the intake mainfold and then pry. the head broke off the screwdriver. I am hesitant to pound a prybar between the head and the intake manifold, as I can't replace metal if I gouge it. Once I get the manifold off, I want to replace the gaskets, as the rear gasket is leaking.
