Anyone have a part number and/or location to get a vr for a 67 Dart that is rated to handle a 60 amp alternator?

Thanks

You should be able to get one from Napa. If you want you can also get a constant voltage regulator (Mopar Performance) through your dodge dealer or Jegs.

I'd be hesitant to run that much amperage through those old wires. If nothing else, try to give the harness a good looking over. Have you considered changing over to the later electronic regulator and dual field alternator? Its really very simple and it will allow you to run the electronic ignition too. Just a thought.

Charging amperage doesn't flow thru the voltage regulator. It just reads the batteries voltage and engergizes the field windings with a certain amount of voltage to control alternator output. It acts like the thermosat on the electric furnace in a house. The thermostat is a low voltage/amperage device to control the high voltage/amperage furnace.

Still a good idea though to check the wiring on our older cars on a regular basis.

You can get them at any parts store. Most of the ones you get now have electronic guts. The regulator does not care what the amperage of the alternator is, it just switched the field on and off to keep the output voltage in teh 13.8-14.2 range which means current is flowing into the battery.
