Has anyone ever tried this? Don't look like too bad of a job.

1) Remove the 4 doors, and post.

2) Hang some 2 door doors.

3) Weld in 2 door, door posts.

4) Cut and weld in the back door skin, to the quarter panels.

5) finish with some metal fab, and body work.

I see about 10 to 14 hours of work, without operational back windows.

you can probably add another 8 hours to add operational back windows.
 
For the time and parts it would take,save the 4 door and find a 2 door.they,re plenty and cheap.My 2 cents
 
My 2 cents is it is worth it on a wagon like the one wags has done. On a 4 door dar it will be way more of an investment than you could ever recover.
 
Interesting idea but in my opinion it would look cobbled-up, whereas if leave it a 4 door and paint it, you will have a nice-looking practical car.
 
+1 on leaving it as a 4 door. If it's pretty clean, Some 4 door lover will buy it from you and then put that $$$ into a 2 door. JM2C
 
Ok ive had this i deal b4 too .. but let the others said its not worth the time ..or cash to do it . but if u want some thing diff shave the door handles drop it as far as u can to still clear bumps put some skirts on her and then put some wide whites on that thing and roll on out .. now i know im going to get hell for that but hay dare to be diff lol

Before I agree with the "leave it a 4-door and go buy a coupe" crowd.... what is the advantage/purpose of this? As Hannibal Lecter would say: First principles. What is its nature? What are you seeking by doing this?
 
I have to ask what is the advantage of doing this ? I saw someone build a 57 chevy convertible out of a four door. In that case, he took a $1500 car, added $5000 worth of body parts, spent $10,000 on the restoration and for $16,500, built a car that he wouldn't be able to otherwise touch for under $30,000.
 
Look up member Arillious on BBD. He did with a 68 on shoestring budget and a lot of elbow grease.

It's definitely a doable idea, but for the amount of work that I think it would take me, I'd rather try it on a new Charger! You must already have the two door posts I presume?

Nope. I don't have the posts, or the doors. I don't know about where yall are at, but around here 2 door cars are hard to find. When you do find one, it's a POS. My 4 door is in excellent shape. All of the rust on mine is surface rust. NO holes. Very very solid car. By the time I bought a 2 door from around here, and bought all the patch panels, and got it to the condition that my 4 door is in, I could probably do the convert at least 3 times. It's not something that I would be doing to up the value, because the car aint for sale. unless of course someone was to offer me a ridicules amount of money. I plan on this being my daily driver, as it was until last week, then it's going to be my 6 year old sons 1st car. I finally decided to put it in the garage, and start getting it ready for paint. It is just something I was looking at. I have worked with metal fabrication all my life, and it really doesn't look much harder than replacing a couple of quarters, and patch panels.

10 to 14 hours?? With how many people working on it at the same time???
 
I am sure it could be done if you have the time, skill and parts to do it and you want it bad enough. Good luck if you go for it. Be cool to see how it goes for you. Get lots of pics if you do.
