Looking for an A-body 7 1/4" axle with 5x4.5" bolt pattern and deep gears; I've read that they were available all the way to 3.90
I currently have a '63 Dart with a 7 1/4" axle from a '74 disc brake automatic A-body and the 2.76 ratio just doesn't cut it around town in hilly/traffic-clogged San Francisco. I've finished the front disc conversion and want to stay with 4.5" all around.
I'm pretty new to Mopars, and I've heard volumes about how weak the little axle is, but I'm only running a 225 slant six, an A-833 gearbox and no big drag racer aspirations.
An open diff is just fine...prefer complete drum to drum, but any and all cheerfully considered. Price is negotiable; I wouldn't expect free, but wouldn't turn it down, either
I'm thinking shipping would be insane, but I have a van (five-speed Previa) and willing to drive around the West Coast to pickup.
Any info or advice welcomed...we all have to be novices sometime!
