I found a water pump pulley that fits my 318 depth wise but is a 1/2" smaller in diameter than the original. Will this just turn the water pump faster? Or is there something else I should look out for?

The depth is why I needed the pulley. It does line up right. I have a 340 pulley also but it is a little off (to deep) and is a 1/4" bigger in diameter than the original. The new pulley is about 9% smaller than the original. Does that mean the pump would turn 9% faster? Or is there more math than that.

It'll spin faster. How much ? You need to check the difference in diameters and do a calc based on the outside diameter, something similar to an axle versus tire diameter calc. Hold the rpm constant and then calc the outside pulley speed. I dont know the difference off hand. Do a google on pulley speed calcs. Bet you find your answer that way.
