Hi guys,
It looks to me like a lot of aluminum caps are advertised as stainless steel. While the difference might be obvious to some it would be helpful if someone could post the weight of a 1969 Stainless Steel Dog Dish Cap. I'm thinking the 1970-1974 aluminum ones must be 5 oz or less, but maybe someone could confirm that too.
Thanks!
John

Is this for weight reduction? 5 oz could possibly reduce your 1/4 mile time by .00000000005 sec. Lol

Why weigh them? Are you running in the F.A.S.T. class were appearance is everything? They are easy to spot...1969 Dodge red line dog dish caps...1-year only caps...stainless steel....a little rare...yes! Easy to restore...yes, cause stainless is tough and forgiving. In 1970 Dodge vehicles got the aluminum stamped red striped dog dish cap.... Not sure how long that went for but it is not as rare, but, it is hard to find a nice set. I believe the reproductions are all aluminum, and they are not 100% correct! Originals are always worth top dollar.....and hard to find

Yes,
The weight takes the mystery out of the metal being used.
Nothing to do with making the car lighter.
Thats all

Stainless ones weigh 8.6 oz.
Thank you mcode, you are the best. This is the info we need. I don't think that anyone is purposely trying to be fraudulent, but here and on ebay aluminum caps are being traded as stainless. Aluminum ones are 5 oz or less. stainless are 8 oz or more. Always have a vendor confirm weight. And to 66340sedan's comment, always go for the light ones to lower your ET :)
