Weird 904 to 408 magnum starter interference issue. Dakota starter won't fit? 64 push button trans. is that the problem?

Maybe the shop should be called outside one FABO members should avoid using?
Sorry, by common, I mean the 904 starter deal Is more common that I realized. Not that the shop ripping people off is a common thing. I don't have enough details to do that. For all I know it's a car dealership with no classic experience, and no idea how much info they were given by cust. Or the reseller for that matter

There never was a cast iron 904. First year for the 904 was 1960 and it was for a slant six only. First V8 904 was 1964, when the 273 was first introduced.

BTW, I had to grind on the 383 block in my 64 Polara when I put a lightweight starter on it. Can't remember what the interference was, but I think it was the factory adapter on the two electrical terminals.
In fact the first years of the slant / 904 torqueflite, they are called a "Torqueflite 6" and the 727's were called "Torqueflite 8's"

I thought I would give an update on my magnum 408 to 904 starter fitment issue. Because I had the motor and transmission mated and ready to install, I couldn’t get an angle grinder in there, which would have been quicker. About 20 mins of shaping with a die grinder and we have an air gap!
