Welding body panels ???

When welding two body panels together with a butt weld do you put a piece of metal behind the panels as a " backer" ???? Thanks

Can't hurt as long as alignment is maintained.

Also will help with blow through.

A nice thick piece of copper also works.

Generally no because there's a lot of places you can't get at after the panel is put on.

If you use a copper paddle, the weld wont stick to it, but the paddle can help you apply pressure or what ever you might need to make the weld better.
