let me start off by saying that i just got home, and i left last night at like 11:30 p.m, so bear with me.

i bought car from fellow member, and he told me that the car had rust issues. and i looked at all the pics he sent me, so at 7 pm last night i sent him payment, and decided to get the car today.
600 miles each way, plus about 200 miles of sight seeing.lol

so after getting there, i looked the car over, and realized two things..................

1) the car is not as bad as i feared.
2) the car is much worse than i hoped.

but i know i cannot buy a turn key duster that is restored for less than about 15,000 give or take and for it to even be a original 340 and four speed together.lol

the car was listed for 5,000 but just by going by pics, i bought it for 4,700 sight un-seen

this is no way anyones fault but my own....................

becides a few rust issues, the things that the pics that i got from him did not show was a car that is full of nothing but gallons of bondo...............
the fenders have about a half of gallon in each, the doors have at least twice that amount, and the quarters; lets not even go there. i would say that whoever redid the body on this, used about 4 gallons of filler.lol no joke

the car runs perfect except for a few little kinks, and the trans shifts great but also has a problem with the pedal. it grabs great and does not slip, but is seems so WEAK. no effort is needed at all to push it to the floor

i am happy with the sale. do not get me wrong. i have a /6 3 speed duster that i was searching for everything to convert it to 340, 4-speed, 8 3/4, rallye dash, air cleaner for dual hood scoops, rims, posi, go wing......... you all get the idea.
all of that alone on a cheap day would run me about 4,000, and the engine, trans still may need a freshen up

and also, everyone that has these parts for sale wants gobs of money.

so i have decided to just drive and enjoy the car this summer, and tear it down for a full resto this winter by yours truly. i will be using the /6 car for the doors and fenders, cause they are super straight, and have minimum rust issues. i'll put the money out for full quarters, and do them the right way, but that i will have to learn as i go.lol
frame is awesomely solid, as is the trunk and under the hood. roof is nice, but where roof goes into the cowl has cracks there, so i will have to address that.

hey, what do you expect for 4,700.00???????????????a totally restored real 340 4 speed with all the goodies??????????????lol good night everyone. i will probably sleep for like the next 2 days

fyi, it had the right 70 stripe on it, but i peeled it all off on my way home at each gas station, so i can put the 71 stripe

Yea, throw some stripes on that baby, and cruise!! Looks pretty good for that kind of money to me!!

yea, i figure that if i keep it out of the weather, ill get a full year of cruises before all the bondo comes off in sheets. lol

I agree, just parts alone was worth the price and it is a 340 car:cheers: Congrat's on a new driver to enjoy :happy10:and I am looking forward to your new restoration thread 340plot
Glad to hear you made the trip safely and no brake down's :happy10:

well, the trip went pretty smooth, till i was going down the highway, and heard a rod knock, so i thought. after like 20 minutes of investigating on the highway, i find it to be the bisquits inside the catalitic converter rattling horribly.lol

I think for the money paid, you got a fair deal. It,s a good thing you have a donor car to rob parts from.Once you get it all done you,ll have a really nice car.Good luck with the restoration.Get someone that can put the 1/4,s on right for you, unless you have the skills.

Well on one hand you have to tear down the body and fully restore her, but on the other hand you were able to score an A body mopar 340 car,4 speed, for under 5k. Thats kind of the equalizer. As the previous poster stated, drive it for the season and then restore it. A bodies are going way up in value and I have seen worse for more $. Not a bad looking car at all. enjoy it this season and start planning your restoration while getting some cruising fun while the weather's good. Start a resto thread and keep us posted with lots of pics.

That all depends on what hiding under that paint, and what kind of condiition the motor and tranny are in..good luck with it though..

glad to see you got a new ride. sorry you missed the store on your return trip this time. we all know you got what it takes to do it up right. I am happy for you, steve

thanks guys for the words. i just got back from a short cruise.. it is a runner. lol

i think you did just fine, already runs and drives. for amount of bondo you say looks pretty good in pictures. and 4700 isnt much money now a days. already have 4 speed, 340, rear, wing, pedals,dash..etc. run it and then restore it.

Nope I don't think you did too bad for that kind of money. Nothing wrong in driving a 20 footer for a while. Enjoy.

Thats a great start especially considering its a real 340/4-speed car and that you already have a donor car with most of the body parts you need for a quality restoration. Will it be making the trip to Carlisle?

I think you did alright.....for what you paid ,it don't sound like a bad deal at all, bondo or not

ill just drive it till the whhel (or bondo) falls off.lol
