Gotta love the fun of going out for the evening with the wife. We went to Tampa to the Hard Rock Casino to see one of my all time favorite bands. "Deep Purple"

Yes opened for them and playe for about 1 1/2 hours. Then Deep Purple made it up.

I think Yes only had one top ten / number one hit ever but it stayed at the top of the charts for a phenomenal time period. Maybe an all time record. We all know the song. Deep Purple would be awesome!

Steve Howe is the only remaining member of YES still in the band. That old dude can still rip the guitar apart !
 
These bands where a little before "T"s time. But she still enjoyed going out and listening to the music. She's more of a 80s fan !
 
Yes 90125- almost every song was played on the radio for an entire year.

...and deep Purple...that's an odd bill.

Who was the guitarist for DP? Doesn't look like Blackmore.


We just saw Sammy Hagar at that same venue.

Great show.

His name is Simon McBride, been with DP for 2 years. The keyboard dude replaced Jon lord who has passed a while back.

They still have Ian Paice. And Ian Gillan and Roger Glover are back. That's pretty good for band 55 years old!
How's Gillan's voice? It used to be pretty spectacular, but old guys can lose their singing voice.

He has definitely lost a little in the vocal department ! But was great to see them. All these old rockersare disappearing, sadly .Hey at 67 , I might not be far behind. Gotta see them when You can.
 
In December of 1972, my ship pulled into Singapore, stayed for a week. Couple of my friends and I went to the "Barbarella" disco. Had a turban-wearing guy armed with a scimitar guarding the front entrance. Inside, and all-Asian band played rock and roll. Song I remember was Smoke on the Water. They sounded really good, too.

I met a guy once from Wisconsin I believe. That was telling me DP wrote that song about the lake in Wisconsin where he was from !!! And he believed it and couldn't tell him otherwise!

I went to a Deep Purple concert about 10 years ago in Hamilton. It was a great show. When I put the CD player in the Charger, I bought a bunch of CD's from the local used record store. Deep Purple was one of them. Great road trip music.
 
Deep Purple, Made in Japan live album, is still one of my all time favorites. I remember rocking out to that one when I was about 13 years old, just killer!

My mother, who turned 91 in February, has been taking piano lessons for about 7 or 8 years now, she's a huge fan of Burton Cummings, and rock music in general, started taking guitar lessons last year. My brother and I were at her house a while back and he asked her how the lessons were going. She invited him to follow her to the den and she would play some of what she had learned, and as they were headed that way, I said "hey mom, I would love to hear Smoke on the Water". Damned if she didn't play that first!

Deep Purple was my first concert in 1972. Ronnie Dio's band Elf was a warmup band. I was pretty young. My Mom's best friend talked her into letting me go with her little brother. I'm still pretty amazed Mom let me go.
 
I recognized Roger Glover.

He is an under rated bad-*** and produced a LOT of 80's music you know.
 
Awesome! Deep Purple…I’m at Luke Bryan tonight with the family at the braves stadium in ATL. we paid for vip tickets so he’s doing an acoustic pre show and meet and greet. Comes on stage at 7pm in the meantime double shot of crown&coke.

Them Wisconsin folk are an odd lot, I should know, I was born there and left when I turned 18 because I couldn't stand the snow anymore!
 
Interesting you mention that.

I know one guy and his ex wife from Wisconsin.

Both are bat **** crazy.
 
If you can find it Deep Purple and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is an awesome listen. I only have it on 8 track, but have a player wow blast from the past. My 8 track cars just flashed before my eyes lol
 
Roger Glover did have one "hit" song solo.
