What’s the attraction?

Keep'em coming guys/gals!! HIGHLY entertaining thread here!! Hearing you bash the other person's car and tell your favorite is just fun to read!!

Now I know you all aren't being serious about your likes and dislikes. I'm sure with your intelligence and love for Mopars that deep inside you all fully realize that the 69 Charger is clearly the pinnacle of automotive design bar none. The coke bottle shape from the side or top view. And the swept C-pillar design. That front grille. Just an awesome car!!

Took my girlfriend on her first car date in mine when she was 15 and it got her to be my wife of almost 37 years now! So clearly these are gorgeous, magical, and mystical cars!! (Or was it the movie we saw...Animal House!! Just kidding, it was the Charger she'll tell you!)

This?

i don't have a car.jpg

30 years ago I didn't consider owning a early A. However, time has changed me, and now I like them. I can say the same about '71-74 Chargers/RR's. But now I like them as well. And here is the kicker..... Cordoba's/Magnum's were weren't on my "consider" list. But now I own a Magnum and think it's nice looking. I have a C body list I like as well !!! I guess the less you see of something, the more you appreciate it. Some day I might just buy me an early A.
Same with me, BUT I think as we age our tastes can change. Not everyone but many of us.

Some peeps want nothing but a hemi car. All they have ever had and all they ever want. I have had some, THEY are no big deal to me even if they were affordable today.

Why is it at BJ the high seller models changes ever few years????

true with the 68-70 Charger, but I think it could be said that that Coke bottle design started at GM with the 67 -69 Camaro as well as Chevelle and the rest of the GM A bodies of the era. GM had "nice curves" at that time. I did start out with a 71 Pontiac when I was a youngster, but then switched to Mopar. This is by no way a "Mopar bash" but my uncle had a 68 Coronet R/T in the late 70s,and he traded it straight up for a 67 Camaro RS/SS. The R/T was a powerhouse, but to him the Camaro was more desireable, and I bet at the time a no brainer trade. Mopars werent always as popular as they are now. Just pointing out how it was in 1978. Keep in mind they were playing around with gas prices then also.

I'm completely opposite. I saw an early Barracuda with big tires and air shocks when I was in high school and figured it was the most awesome car ever. I got a 273 Commando car in or about 1975 and still have it today. Picture is somewhere in the 1990's or so??, still on the street. Big tires and rake of course. My cousin's wife told him once it was an ugly car. I never understood that line of thinking. :)View attachment 1715961118

Awesome car! I love the design and I love the Cragers and tires. Cool combo and ride!!!

I have built about every model except winged cars. I have a bud that had 3 Superbird projects back on mid 90s. all 3 were V code cars. All 3 had MIA a major part as in wing or nose or not so major fenders, All rollers. My choice $5000 ea. I did not want one! LOL
I have built half a dozen 68-70 Chargerss, decades ago. I love the shape and the interior. Personally I hated dealing with the grills. The rear sheetmetal is like 5 layers welded together back there. Heavy cars they seemed like too. But sexy!! Just as well they are so high priced for worthless projects and of course, I would never consider buying a done one I FI won the big lottery!!!
But, I rather have a good 65 Cuda. Or 67-9Cuda!! Open up my head and have my brain examined!!!!!!!!!:realcrazy::rofl::steering:

Those early A's are fun to drive. Small, light, agile. A 273 or 318 makes them feel like they are flying.

I actually thought the same thing until I saw a certain '66. The year was 1977 and this car had been rode hard and put away wet too many times to count, BUT it had a different stance AND 14" wheels. It also had a Commando 273 backed by a four speed along with disc brakes and handling package. First time I drove that car I was in love. That was in 1978. The car became mine in late 1980. I did sell it in 1985 because I was going in a different direction. I wanted to build a big block '67 Dart GT.

I never thought I would own a first-gen either. My high school hot rod in 1972 was a '66 Valiant with a 340 and 4-speed. I had always been a Chevy guy, but I wasn't going to go through my senior year in high school without having a hot rod, and I did what I could afford on a paper route and yard work budget. A few years later, having transitioned to a Mopar guy and rebuilt the 340 with some tweaks, as well as adding an 8-3/4" rear end, I started looking for a '67-'69 Barracuda as a candidate for a drivetrain transplant. However, while sitting in a classroom during my mechanical engineering studies, I looked out the window and saw a red '65 Barracuda (with the period typical Cragar wheels), and thought that wouldn't be so bad. A few months later, I bought a rust-free '65 for $375. It was silver with red interior. It had a 273 that was running on maybe 5 or 6 cylinders, with a 904 Torqueflite. I drove it home, yanked the drivetrain, and made the swap, but went with a 727 Torqueflite instead of the 4-speed because it was just easier at the time. I had it painted red a few years later, and drove it with no further modifications until 2015. The picture in my screen name for this site was taken in 1982. This one is from SEMA 2019, and there's not much '65 Barracuda left--aluminum 433 c.i. 3rd gen hemi with Hilborn injection and dry sump, Tremec 6-speed with PPG sequential shift conversion, full frame with cage, independent rear suspension with Hammerhead center section and differential cooler, Detroit Speed Alumaframe front suspension, Viking active shock control, Alcon brakes, onboard fire suppression system, full interior with sound system and Vintage Air. The first-gen Barracudas seem to be polarizing; most people either love them or hate them. I had a secretary years ago who told me it was the ugliest car she had ever seen. She drove a Volvo 244.

I’ve never been a fan of the 64-66 barracuda, I remember these cars growing up and thought they were butt ugly

Yeah, I hear ya. It's my Wife's favorite car so...I'm building one. I've learned to love it only because she does. Luckily, JD, a member here came up with almost eveything I needed to get this roller on the road. I'll try to remember to post a pic when I get it done.
I built my favorite car so I figured I better build hers so I dont make the doghouse my Mancave! The Brand C pic is my fav.

A lot depends on the era you were born in. I was 24 when the first Barracuda came out. I thought they were spectacular! Definately a better car than the Mustang. I wanted one!!
I was about to ship out to Nam and didn't know if I would come home from there. When I did come home, I stopped by the Dodge dealer in Salt Lake and fell in love with a new gold Charger. However, I didn't have enough gelt in my pockets so I walked on. It was another 54 years before I found my '65 and I love it. Sure the newer Barracudas look great but I feel all Barracudas look great!! Barracudas make my heart flutter! If I could find a '66 Charger I could afford, I'd buy it. There will never be cars that look so good fifty to sixty years after they were built!

One of my favorite cars would be a 65 S 4 speed car.
But back in the day the 64-66 Barracudas were criticized for the large back window.
So maybe it was not perfect from a design aspect, but that is everyone's opinion.
And yes it was a Valiant under the fish skin, I get that.
Here is a buick and a chevrolet that had large rear windows.
Never heard the outcry about their design.

The Barracuda looks a lot better than this:

The General needs to quit recruiting designers from video game developers. Their styling and marketing depts went for a powder 30 years ago and never came. Kind of like when the Mopar crew lost a bunch of their car guy engineers and the bean counters took over. I do not think this Stellantis whatever will solve their fortunes. The dealer sales people thought Fiasco was the answer to their problems after the Diamler screwup. Negatory on that.

You know, @Ron816, it's one thing to nicely say, I'm not a big fan of the 64-66 Barracudas" if asked, but to start a thread bashing and insulting a car that a lot of people on this forum own and like is rude. I do not see the "ATTRACTION" of posting such a caustic, rude and inflammatory thread. Did you expect a lot of members to agree with you? I believe in, "Be nice until it's time to not be nice", and this thread is not nice.

Ha! That’s how you create a 5 page thread!

I kinda agree with the OP but then I saw this at a local (Melbourne, Aus) car show and now I’m not so sure????
