What are some of the early signs of a sure-grip starting to wear out ? I just installed a new set of 4:30 gears and used my original sure-grip (not cone type) and while putting the axles in I noticed the left axle will turn for an 1/2 inch then lock back up again the right side doesn't do it. it will do it in either direction. it feels like a clutch slippage thingy.

i'd say that as long as it locks up, then forget it.....unless it is inconsistent in the black mark test.........
if it grabs and releases, then a rebuild may be in order....but be glad......it's only 60 bucks......plus your own labor....

i have great pics on a clutch type rebuild, just haven't written an article about it yet.........but it's EASY.....

Im hoping its just a dry clutch disc in the sure grip ...will know in an hour when I give it the black strip test

ah, the black mark test, if ya got'em smoke'm. Might as well go for the full pass test also.lol
