76 fury, old lady had it would not start, she paid for the battery, 40K miles, she paid for the battery, and still only wanted $200 drove it home.
85 fth ave, another elderly lady, would not start, she bought a new car, bought it for $200, bad timing chain, but a clean old garage kept car.

My first car was a 72 4 door dart. After bugging my neighbor for about a year he finally sold it to me for $250. It was in showroom mint condition. This was around 1991.
Sometime late 90's I got my 74 barracuda for free in exchange for doing some work on a guys 71 340 duster. Spent about a week or two working on the duster and brought the car home. About 2 months ago I finally got around to restoring it :) Its been sitting idle since I got it.

I can think of two.
1. In 1972 I saw a 1964 Sport Fury on the used car side of Shortman Dodge. I had just sold a 57 Chevy 2 Dr HT for $800. I stopped to look at it. It was beautiful. White with the red and white interior, buckets, console, PS, PB, AC, 383, Auto. The seats were covered with clear vinyl. I asked how much, and they said $1600. I said I just sold a car and all I had was $800. They dropped it to $1200, and I said that was nice, but I really only had $800. I was a Junior in college at the time. I was getting ready to leave and they said how about $1000. I thanked them profusely and said I really only had $800, and I thanked them for their time. Then they said do you have $800 cash? Then the car was mine. Like a FOOL I sold it after a few years.
2. About 18 years ago, I decided to convert my Barracuda from an automatic to a 4 speed. I checked with Brewer's and it was going to be about $3500. Then I saw a 69 Barracuda 340 4 speed car on Ebay. The guy said it was rough but restorable, and the 340 ran. I bought it for $2700, and it cost me about 500 to drag it home. So $3200 total. I stripped all the 4 speed stuff off of it, and then sold the running 340, 8.75 SureGrip with 3.55s, and Automatic out of my car for $2400. Then I GUTTED the car and listed dozens of parts on Ebay. Everything was listed auction style, and everything sold. I was actually embarrassed at how much some things sold for. When all was said and done, I bought a new flywheel, had the console top re-chromed, had Brewer's rebuild the shifter and chrome plate the shift handle, bought new top and bottom boots and bought a 4 speed rebuild kit, and I wound up with about $500 in my pocket. So I got a more than free 4 speed conversion.

68 Chevelle 2 door hardtop rolling chassis for $150. Was runnin and drivin a day later with a 396 and turbo 400.

purple 340/4 speed, 8 3/4 with 4:10 gear 70 duster. got it for free. parted it out. today it would be quite fixable. still have the vin tag on my computer desk. :)

My 1972 Duster that I bought in 1981. Paid 650. Still 0wn it.
Rusty, tired 340, flat leaf springs, and bald tires. My Dad gave me **** for buying it.

Not a Mopar however this is as good as it ever got for me. Original 64 1/2 SS 409 missing the Intake and Transmission. The rest of it was there..... In very rough shape. $175.00 put it on the trailer. But there was a problem. I couldn't locate the Title and after I thought all my efforts were exhausted sold the car... Young and dumb lol....

Fast forward to last week when I was introduced to an employee at a company I now work for she and I quickly connected within a circle of friends. It turns out her ex father-in law owned the car and her ex husband has the Title to the car. Well known local Doctor which fit the story I was told and had social media evolved in the year 2000 I could have easily connected the dots and got the Title she said. That's a 6 figure car restored.

I have too many other stories but for older people like myself we will have similar histories. It's why I cringe when I see the prices people pay today.... Glad that life is behind me....

The car I wish I would have today out of all the cars I owned? There was Two. Both cars I do not have pictures of but one I syill have the title. It was stolen.

1969 Coronet R/T 440 4bbl. 4spd 410 Dana. Got it from my sister who bought it new. B7 blue black top and interior stripe delete. buckets and console, bubble hood. Chrome lugs only

second is

1969 Coronet R/T 440 six pack 4spd 410 Dana. Bought it in 1972 at age 17 with 1300 miles on it from the original owner at Georges Inn. Y2 yellow red interior no vinyl top stripe delete. buckets and console. fresh air hood. Full size hub caps. The first thing I did was install a pin on six pack hood. Cragars with slicks and headers. Paul George bought it at Berk Motors in West Catasauqua pa. Engine was special ordered new and came in a crate with the car and was dealer installed.

My GTO's were quicker then both but I had a lot of money in them. I always liked driving those Coronets. I had a couple more after that over the years even a convertible but they were not the same as having one new. You could not have even imagined how crazy those cars were to drive with Bias F70 14 tires from new.

I had some races that were close and some I lost. Two losses were to Hemi coronets. One 68 R/T Y2 Yellow called Bad news from Gene and Franks auto . And one Hemi 69 RT White with Red stripe owned buy Gary Schweikert. It ended up being used to make the give away clone at Carlisle Pa.

I beat that White Hemi off the show room floor. He put headers and slicks on and all I saw was taillights. Those were the days. The real street races back in the70's. My sisters husband would race that blue 69 at Fort dix in 69 before he left for Nam. That is when I ended up with it.
I had a picture of all three of our cars at an ice cream stand before a race. I Lost many old race pictures in a fire. The 68 was a 2 ft. wheel stander on the street. He had a bottle back then. Mine was the only 4spd out of the three. There was another Yellow 68 440 4spd. But he never raced. Roger Pogatta had a black 68 Hemi RR. he would show up once in a while. Very fast but he knock a hole in the moroso pan on the return lane and blew the motor at a track .

I could right a book . Once I get started on "Back in the Day" I go off on a tangent. So many dam cars and memories Sorry!

$650.00 66 Formula S 1975, $400.00 59 Fury, 72 Fury $2000.00, 64 Fury $2000.00, the Furys’ all purchased in the 90’s, 59 Sweptside $4.000.00 early 2000’s, and spent 7yrs to restore it. These were really fair priced at time of purchase and still drive them

1971 Demon. 318 Auto with buckets and console for 50 bucks. My avatar car. Had it parked at my sister's house when her boyfriend told me to move it or lose it. LOL........Towed to the crusher, although I'm sure the scrap guy pulled the good stuff out....hopefully. Haven't talked to that guy for over 10 years.

My barn (warehouse) find 65 'S'. Straight, rust free. 100% complete and running (on 5 cylinders), still had bias ply tires on it and 1976 tags..... $800 in 1994. Drove by it, asked the guy at the muffler shop if it ran from inside my work truck, came back 4 hours later with the money. Had to go to my bank and take out a personal loan... Drove it home 25 miles that night on its own battery and 3 gallons of new gas. Those bias ply tires were squirelly on the freeway! 8 new plugs, new dual points and new gas, ran like a champ! I wouldn't think the Commando 273-4 would idle that low..no cam chop whatsoever. From N to D there was no change in RPM...650 like a rock on the old slow SW tach.
72 Honda AN600...$200 1985
71 Honda AZ600...$300 1985 (bought 2 weeks after the first as it jumped time on the way home from buying it!) :BangHead:

Back a few or so decades ago, a dollar went a lot further. We talk of cheap cars bought back in the day, we don't mention how a year salary with a good job was $7-8000. 1970 or so.

1988. Paid $3500 for perfect Tor Red AAR, PO had replaced the col. AT with a 4 speed. Best driving E body I ever had. 3500. Probably overpaid. Drove it often for 5 years , sold it for $10,000. Mark it sold too cheap!

Guy calls me from Mn. I was in Mo. 1989. Wanted to sell me a 70 HemiCuda roller minus the shaker hood for $1500. Someone had wacked off the hemi K frame mounts for a SB. He knew the car before he got it and knew it was original hemi car. No guarantees. Vin tag was found in the trunk when I got there. 1200 mi round trip. Mark it bargain.

Guy calls me from Ok. 1991. Wants to sell me an original AAR Cuda, all there, no brakes but runs. He can't sell it in Muscogee Ok. for $1500. A complete 70 Cuda 318 roller is thrown in for free. 600 mi. Mark it bargain. 4 speed car 's, lime.

I find a 70 V code 440-6 Challenger, 4 speed purple. 1990. You guessed it, $1500. The guys mom called and wanted it GONE> Period. To many tickets. 200 mi. No title. I filed for lost title under the kids name. Mark it bargain.

Bud in Tn had 3 V code Superbird rollers. 1994. Each was missing a fender or wing or nose. My choice $5000, Cheaper if I took all 3. I passed. Hated those big silly looking things!! Mark it my mistake.

Good cars were to be found. It was fun. The list is long.
Too bad I could not to afford to sit on them all. ( really any of them).

My wife lets me share in ownership of her slant 62 Lancer!!!!

My 1st car in 1979, it was a 69 charger that my parents purchased for $350 from a neighbor.
