I recently bought a 73 d100 with a 318.i want to do a rebuild but I cannot tell whether I have a 2b carb that is Carter or Holley because the auto parts store I am looking for a carb rebuild kit.
How can I tell which one I have?

Looks like a Holley replacement for the BBD. They called them Economasters, then later Chrysler used then on 318's. My story to show how dumb I and other people were back in our younger years. I had an engine builder build me a heavy duty 318 that was going to get driven a lot of miles. I got Ed Hamburger 9.0 comp forged pistons, 340 rods and crank, an Isky mileage cam. It was completely rebuilt, and I bought one of those Holley Economasters brand new. Got it broke in but it was a gutless turd. A few thousand mile and I went back to my engine builder complaining how gutless it was. He recommended putting a bigger cam in it, said them mileage cams suck. I put a 340 replacement cam in it. It helped some. I drove this car some 90,000 miles. I sold the car and got the engine back. Sometime later a friend needed a 2 bbl for his daughters 318. I told him he could try this Holley. He gave it back the next week, said that is a POS. The carb still looked like new, I started to disassemble it and found the accelerator pump arm was not hooked up-never was. I bet I'm the only one on here that drove 90,000 miles with no accelerator pump. I called Holley and asked them WTF, his reply was-one slips out every once in a while. I haven't bought a new Holley since! Sorry for the long rant, so this can be your joke of the day:rofl:

Here is a picture of a Stock '69 318 Low Top BBD carb. (Gas Leaker)

Replaced it with a 4 bbl and adapter on the stock manifold, much better. Woke it up and no more leaking gas.

@George Jets it is 100% a holley

the carter linkage is totally different (red box), the bowl vent is attached (yellow) vs the holley is integrated into the body, fuel inlets are different due to the construction of the body (magenta squares), the bail on the holley runs 12~6 and 1~7 on carters.

The pictured carburetor is a Holley 2280. The 2280 was introduced in 1978 on 318 Electronic Lean Burn (ELB) applications. It was used through 1987 in various 318 applications, both ELB (or Electronic Spark Advance, ESA), and non-ELB/ESA applications. The later electronic feedback version of the 2280 is the 6280.

The Holley list number to identify the carburetor further is located as shown in the following:

A 1973 D100 318 was originally equipped with a Carter BBD 1-1/4 carburetor. The 2280 can bolt on in place of the Carter as well as a Rochester 2GC.

NOTE: The referenced Carter "High Top BBD" was possibly referencing this version:

Screw the carb, let’s see this 73 D100!! I just bought one as well. Where in So Cal are you?

Thank you everybody for the help! Now I can go get a 2280 rebuild kit. I will post some more on it when I get a chance.

I’m near Pasadena I picked her up from the Pomona Swap meet.

Drove her home but needs a obvious tune up.

That is the older version of the BBD used up until about 1973/74ish. Then the one in the pencil drawing a couple of posts up replaced it.
As far as the Holley 2280 I've had a few, my 78 fury still has its original which runs good but is going because it's a lean burn version that doesn't have a vacuum advance port.
I also still have the original one from my 83 d250 that ran alright when it was on there but I took that one off when I put the cam and 4bbl on that engine. The 83 one was not lean burn. For now that carb might wind up on the fury for a while.

Nice truck! Looks very similar to mine. I looked for a long time for the right truck and when it came up I’m jumped on it. Hopefully I see ya round the neighborhood at a few shows. If you’d like to follow along with mine…..

My search for a shorty D100 is over
