I got a bare LA block from a friend that we a deal my 71 Duster.

Its a good block and also have what I think the matching X head (complete).

Casting number on the block
AAQA
FW340P30380144
35809
2780430-340-4

I think its from 1969 (baracuda), but unsure, still looking at google for more details
No picture for now.

What these would be worth?

It really depends on your location.340's are golden around here in a since and higher other places.I gave $400 for mine that had been to the machine shop complete with new cam bearings and ready to build.I also got a set of x heads with it but they need to be worked.

1970 model year car is what it came out of.

Original main caps, no cracks and std bore is worth more than .060 over and beat to snot. Could range from scrap to ~400-500 for the block.

Heads, cores are in the 200-300 range.

With this built date, does it make it a 69 or 70?

The motor was cast in 69 but was used in a 70 car.Check the vin number stamped on the passenger side just rearward of the motor mount and just above the oil pan.The car year will be the first number ,then the plant the car was built at then the cars last six id numbers.

BTW I think I reconize your avatar and user name over on the chargerforums.

Also, as rusty as the water jackets, and head bolt areas look, I would deff want it pressure tested before any money was spent on it, and its is deff worth more, if you have it checked out by a repuatble machine shop!

FW340P30380144

F = year 1970
W = Windsor assembly plant
340 = engine displacement (duh)
P = premium fuel
3038 is Friday, November 21, 1969 (date engine assembled)
0144 is engine built that day at that factory

So this is out of a 1970 model vehicle. The block VIN might or might not help attach it to a car model. They normally are about 3 to 6 month difference from cast to build, but not always the case as supply and demand also effect this.
