What do you make of sellers who only want to converse via email?

Is it asking too much to speak on the phone about an item that the seller has for sale on this forum?
Specifically, big-ticket items like engines and transmissions that are hundreds of miles away from your location.
I don't understand the reluctance from a seller to speak on the phone about something that the seller has listed for sale.
Especially, when you are prepared to drive hundreds of miles and spend hours on the road to pick up the item.
The seller is a known member and has been on this forum for years and actively post parts all of the time.
Please let me know if I am expecting too much from a seller

I find much of the world only want to communicate electronically anymore, I can't stand it. Order pizza, etc, get me a person on the phone. I especially hate tech at speed vendors online. Apparently, I'm a 47 year old dinosaur. You can find out more in a 2 minute conversation than pissing around 2 days trading messages.

Companies use electronic check outs and automated systems as a way to eliminate jobs. I'm proud to say that I've never used a self check out, I don't believe in atm or debt cards. I have nothing against those who use them. I'm old fashion as I pay for my gas, groceries and going out to eat with cash and pay all of my bills by checks and I use the mail.

I like PM or e mail because there is a record of the conversation. It's easy to overlook details in a conversation.

That's true. But aren't we actually bringing a lot of the things that we don't like apon ourselves? Just asking

All of the so called electronic gadgets that's supposedly to make life better? But are they? Self check outs, etc
Don't sidetrack. We are talking about using the phone or text.

Like you said with emails/PM's: records of what was showed (pictures), and said, and agreed upon is important for both parties. Nice to be able to resort back to it too. Phone conversations can make it personal and make it easier to explain. Deals can be made either way or both ways.

Absolutely, a mix of both messages, photos and conversation. This allows finite detail, plus a record through photos and written word.

I may have misinterpreted the initial jist of this post, I thought the concern was sellers that ONLY want to communicate through messages? I get nervous when people don't want to have an actual verbal conversation.

I have had many purchases on this site, I agree with Mike about keeping a record. So as I and the seller may drift off on a text or email. I still follow up with this site to complete transaction so there is a record.

That's probably a good idea. Sorry I got off track earlier.

If its on an item forsale at surprisingly good deal? It's almost certainly a scam. They're not going after the whole costs. They will then spring some travel, or delivery fee to to complete transaction.

i bought a car from a member on here and our only communication was via text and PM until i picked up the car from him and paid. and it was a 6hr drive one way.

it helped that i had bought parts from him previously, but i didn't think of it as an issue and i still would've done the deal if i hadn't.

Equally annoying is a vendor that ONLY communicates electronically. There may be instances where a verbal description is much easier to express and understand than a typed message.

It sucks. The only way to get some of these people to change is to let them know through email that you'll refuse to move forward or ever buy from them if this is the only form of communication that they agree to.
As to your original point, I have bought and sold stuff here, at FBBO and a couple other sites. I prefer verbal for most everything. Pictures are great to have. Text is great for getting directions or times to meet.
