hey guys,

ive come across what seems to me to be a good deal for an 833...its for an abody (ive attached a pic of the casting number since im not sure what year its from and what the ratios would be)...The owner is a great very straight up guy and he says it needs a new reverse gear (Which he sent me a pic of because its all worn out and grinds going into gear...looked for replacement gear on brewers site but couldnt find one so not sure what they cost) and a reverse shift rod (think i can get one used for cheap but not sure)

im not a tranny expert so i thought id ask you guys if there is anything else missing here that me and him dont know about...also, i believe there are 3 shift forks, but he only has 2 and then a spare (so im assuming reverse is missing, or maybe im wrong and reverse is in the pics as well)..anyways, i'll post the pics and whatever you guys think it needs please let me know

once again thanks all for helping me with my neverending questions in this section8)

1st, there are only 2 shift forks, not 3. 2nd, the shifter rods in your last pic are incorrect so you will need all 3 shifter rods. If you need gears, call Jamie Passon www.passonperformance.com

Look at the pic labeled "Inside". To the left is a cluster gear needle bearing laying in the case. Looks like he had that thing apart.

In fact, it ain't gonna work w/missing parts. Do you have the rest of the internals?

Have you ever priced a cluster gear for a manual trans ?
If you never need reverse.... Good luck

Wow, and here i was thinking that yet again this was gonna be a good score...either im naive or dont know what im looking at or both, so once again thanks guys for leting me know about the problems

I figured that there was a 3rd fork for reverse from looking at other pictures of inside of cases, but i guess im wrong
Also, i kinda figured you couldnt buy a reverse gear by itself and if i have to buy a whole new cluster gear then forget it
I also noticed that needle bearing (i thought it was a pin of some sort) lying in the bottom of the case, but i wouldnt really know how good this thing was until i went to go look at it and im asking you guys to see if im wasting my time going to look at it
also out of curiosity, what are those shifter rods for then? (I knew they didnt look right, but he said they were for it)

thanks for all the input guys...the trans he was offerring to me at 100 bucks, which i thought was a good deal until hearing all this

Well… It could be worth $100, I don't know…..

That is a Hurst Super Shifter, does it come in that $100 deal?

I figured it was worth 100 (thats how much he wants) considering even the case alone is probably worth that...the super shifter is not included in the deal (he wants another 75 for the rods and shifter box)...also, im thinking the reverse gear pictured is just a reverse idler gear (could be wrong)- is there no way at all to buy them seperately, from brewers or passon? nobody has really said so im not 100% sure on that...and about the reverse fork, i know there is some sort of lever that actuates reverse- it may not be a fork but there is something there (maybe someone can post a pic of the inside of a833 to show what i mean) that i think is missing as well

I thought for 100 bucks it may be worth it, but it seems like to you guys its not (Which is fine, you know more than me, im not criticizing, just looking for help)

thanks again!8)

the pic is too blurry...and thanks for the offer papadodge but im not looking for an od trans as i already have one

the A-body specific tail section and main shaft should be worth $100 if in good shape plus the case

thats what i figured...100 bucks seems pretty decent even for a core tranny

so 100 bucks what do you guys think? was thinking that i may even be able to convert it 18 spline if i really had to change the countershaft (rather not though since im tight on cash)...since know one seems to know i think im gonna email brewers and see if they sell reverse gears and for how much...also, how much would a set of shift rods go for? (though im thinking v-gate shifter and i know im gonna need v-gate specific rods too)

so this tranny is missing the reverse lever and ball and detent as well then?...

your not buying a trans just a case, A-body tail section, hopefully a usable A-body mainshaft, more importantly the parts needed to convert any non A-body 833 into one. the rest is just junk spare parts

YES!!! Furthermore, it's missing the input shaft. Check out the link from Brewers and look at the price. Like I said earlier, give him $25 and use it for parts, if anything in it is usable.

If it matters, I paid $200 for a complete, used trans.

Nuff said for me on this topic.

if you didnt want to reply you didnt have to....im asking for help here since i know nothing really (i didnt even notice the input shaft is missing, and i dont think you did either till later since you didnt mention it before)...if its too much of a bother than DONT bother...easy as that

I appreciate help and any answers to the many questions i have, but as soon as people make me feel like i am bothering i feel that those people just shouldnt even type responses

you can all be rest assured i wont be asking any more questions about THIS tranny.

thanks!

You asked, you got replies, not many though. I replied back since I didn't see that the input shaft was missing. Just tryin to save you a few bucks or from a bad deal but if you want to spend the cash on junk, go right ahead.

If the owner is such a straight up guy, he would have mentioned the missing components.

I appreciate that, but theres no need to come across as though im pullin teeth...the owner seems straight up since he sent me all these pictures and stuff- like i said i asked you guys because i know i will get the correct answers...for all i know he may not even know whats missing either...but because i dont know i cant say...i like to think people are being straight up instead of beating around the bush anyways

thanks for your help!
