what hp can a 742 case 8 3/4 handle

I have been as fast as 10.49 in the 1/4 with my 73 dart. It weighs 3520 with me in the car.i have a 742 case with a set of Richmond 4.30 gears.i have about 20 passes on them and so far so good. now when i first got the carb ruining i had a set of Richmond 4.10 gears in it.my best pass that weekend was a 10.66 but blew up the 4.10 gears on the cars 5th pass.on that pass my best 60 ft was only a 1.56 and on the 10.49 pass it was a 1.48. also my 8-3/4 has been back braced.
 
The 742 is a strong unit. I've seen it handle as much as 700HP. You should be OK if you just launch with the foot brake. I've used the 742 season after race season. At the end of the race season, I always rebuilt it with new gears and clutch pack. Of course if you increase your horsepower much more you'll need the Dana 60. JMO
 
the 3.91 gears i have in my 340 came outof a buddies front engine dragster blown alcohol that went very low 7s they lasted for him and now me
