i have a 1971 truck 318. it uses oil and the valves ratlle when cold. ive found a running 318 in a 79 winnebago for 300 dollars with 79000 miles on it. would it be best to just buy the 79 or replace the valve stem seals and reseal the 71 engine. is there much of a performance difference in the two? thanks

If your going to buy another motor wait till you find a late 80s 318 (or 360 preferred) that already has a roller cam

im gonna run a compression check on the 71 in a few days. it runs great but uses alot of oil. smokes when it sits a while at start up and after long decceleration and gas in it it puffs pretty good but is clear all other times. oil pressure hot at 550 rpms is around 15 up in the 30s on the rd. if the comp is decent ill get a cheap cam kit with lifters from summit install valve stem seals and a timing chain and run it. does the oil pressure seem to low to anyone?
