What is this tool thread?

These came with a tool chest I bought; the man I got it from said it came with the house he bought. Previous owner was a mechanic. I'm guessing these have something to do with lifting heavy things, i.e. engines? But some look a little to lightweight to be lifting brackets. Any guesses?

those are all OEM I think. If you look at 72--ish and later you will see them here and there. Some of those appear to be Ford, some Mopar
 
I have shown these pictures to so many people and everyone suspects it's a micrometer of some kind but there's so much more tool than the small measuring piece. Also thought it looked a little like a ring land cleaner but it's not one of those either. Picked it up in a pile of engine tools. Haven't the slightest idea. Maybe a thread measurement tool? please help haha
