On a 340 with XE268 cam, Torker 340 intake, Eddy 750 carb. I have enough clearance under the hood for a 1 inch spacer or maybe taller. So what should I look for? 4-hole? Open? Any ideas?

The only way to know if a spacer will help or hurt is to try them while the car is on a dyno or at the track. There is no magic formula to decide if you can improve the power or not.

Generally a 4 hole will help in the lower rpm's and the open up top.

This depends totally on the combination, even then no two cars seem to respond the same. I currently run a 1 inch 4-hole phenolic spacer. I've tried 1 inch open, 2 inch open and 2 inch 4-hole. I've always ended up putting the 1 inch 4-hole phenolic back on. My combination just seems to run better with this spacer. Next experiment is going to be a 2 inch Super Sucker which I've been told should help but then again I've heard that before..
