What kind of critter dwelling is this ??

I was thinking to partially bury it and see if anything moves

I think its possible that it's abandoned now in the winter and whatever was there may have been long gone since a couple summers ago.

too bad we cant look up prairie dogs in a directory to find out where they claim LOL

Time for a snipe hunt !!!

And all this time, I thought...

Your arm is probably small enough to reach in there and pull it out

Some critters hibernate in the winter.

You could plug the burrow with something & for about 5 bucks empty a bag of concrete mix on top of the plug & then wet it down so the mix sets.

If something digs out from around the plug, then options are available.

I was shootin' squirrels one day when something different popped out of a large hole. It was beige colored and had darker rings around its eyes. I guess it was a badger.

I'm bettin it's a armadiller. We have them nasty bastids down here. If it is, don't forget they are carriers of leprosy. That's somethin you can certainly do without.

Born and raised on the Plains of Colorado...Never heard of an Armadillo siting in the State

I stand corrected....Google says they do. Never too old to learn.

RRR and lgjhn may have nailed it what does an armadillo burrow look like - Google Search

Well, you certainly dont want to tangle with a badger. Most bears wont tangle with one. They mean.
Wolverines are nasty too.

I wouldn’t take any chances. Gas them out and move on. If you set a board over it they will just dig around it.

Winter rattlesnake catching method. Run a section of garden hose down the hole, pour gas into hose, the fumes will run out the snake ( snakes?), ( yes use cheap sorry gas with alcohol, it stinks better)..... it is up to you to deal with the snake as it leaves the hole. OK so a critter may exit with the snake too. ha

Moth balls. Toss them down into the hole. Not too many critters like them. It may even be an opossum.

Really doesn' matter what it is , if it ain't payin rent.
Just pee in the hole it will go away.
