What kind

It is probably an overdrive unit. Has it got an aluminum main case?

If it has an aluminum main case, it's an overdrive. Chrysler made a cast iron case overdrive, but only one year in 1976. Easy to tell though. Stick it in high gear and turn the input shaft one revolution. If the output shaft turns more than one revolution, it's a overdrive. But if it's gotta aluminum main case, unless somebody swapped the gearset out, it's an overdrive, because all of them were from the factory that were aluminum.

If it is the original transmission that came in the car it IS an overdrive. 76 was the only year for the cast iron case but they used both so it could be either.

What if I could only get 1 which is better a 76 alum case or a 76 iron case.
Also is there any casting numbers I need to know that are on the cases.
